In order that the said invention may be readily understood reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying sheets of drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a part-sectional elevation of one embodiment of the invention, showing the case open, and parts attached ready for use.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but 30 with parts detached, collapsed and packed together in readiness for closing the case.
Figure at is a fragmentary view of a detail hereinafter referred to.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the box a houses any suitable type of motor, a part of which is shown in Figure 1. Across the top of the motor is formed a platform I) which is disposed below the level of the top edge of the box or casing a so as to leave a space in which to pack various members, as is described later. The lid 0 of the box is also a recessed member in order to fit over articles packed away above the platform 7), and projecting above the top of the case a; said lid has a spring clip d to receive the motor handle c When not in use.
The sound-box f is supported and carried turnably on a light detachable support 9 carried over the top of the platform I). In order that the sound-box can travel across the record as the latter revolves, it may be slidable on the support, or the support itself movable; an example of the latter arrangeon; nivennnn; sessrenoawo Ema-1 meimmorrtona '-"';eo.-,nimrrnn;or LONDONE'ENGLANDi j" v i menti'sidepicted iintlie drawings i .Herqthe supp orttg. hasa. right-angularateach end, the. arms so. formed. being, in. planes-sat right. angles to eacli. othe g-one,being vertical cured totlie little, and one lying horizontally so. its end: 7'; camswing; asiiidicated rby the. A- engages an annnlaragrooveiinthe endloflflie w support arm to ensure a firm tit.
The sound-box f is formed with a tone-arm to which the horn is fitted. The phrase tone-arm is used to indicate any connecting medium between the sound-box proper and the horn, and in Figure 2 will be seen a cylindrical flange m of the usual kind formed on a sound-box which is employed to function as a tone-arm, and to which the smallest section of the collapsible horn n is frictionally fitted. The horn it consists of a plurality of frusto-conical sections of descending sizes assembled one within the other so that they may be collapsed together to collectively occupy the height of one, as in Figure 3, or extended, fitting together frictionally, to constitute a complete horn as in Figures 1 and 2.
The record table consists of a boss -0 (which may be any convenient shape) to which collapsible arms or spokes p are secured; the arms are radially disposed and may be hinged at g as shown, and are constructed in any suitable manner to afford a protective grip on records when laid thereon and for this purpose may be covered or padded with rubber, baize or the like, as at r, the spokes 19 may be arc-shaped or otherwise formed to give a larger gripping surface. The boss 0 fits over the driving spindle of any ordinary motor, but for sake of space economy, I may arrange the speed regulator s so that movement is possible after the slow position is obtained to afford a stronger and efiective frictional engagement 1 with the usual slidable disc :6 of the governor, and thus constitute also a positive brake and stopping appliance; s is the actuating knob of this regulator. If desired, however, such as when an independent speed control is detrated u is the brake knob {whichpresses on v sired; for setting to z a requisite' speed for a number of-'reb0rds',"a separate" brake maybe used as ordinarily. In the example illusa springy leaf u to brake thetherd t' 5Q The platform I) of the box a has a circu lar recess 0 into which fits the hornm-iwhenr" collapsed, and a side recess w with an orifice at one endleading down into the box and a branch at at the other end to accommodate the double-bench shape 'hereinb'e fore' de E scribed, of the 's'o'und-box-support 'gij The branch recess w also t'akes the boss-o of the "collapsible platform 'as seen ,in" Figure 3- the legs of whichcan lie 'along thepla-tfo'rm .b, resting against the stop-plate A' further recess .2 is formed in'the platform I) -to receive projecting parts of the sound-box in order that same may lie flatly on the i supporting arms pivotally connected with drawings, it indicates 'a" box -catch platform.
In the whereby when the parts are grouped as shown in Figure 3, the lid maybe closed and light," and fastened to make the compact, portable appliance'aimed at "The handle 6. may be foldable or otherwise --collapsible, and as'an auxiliary 'feature, there may be provided a butterfly key h for windingthe motor when the record is on the table, and it is impossible to use the cranked handle 6. This key h is shown stored away iniacircular orifice in the platform I).
I claim 1-." 'A record table adapted for'use in connection with talking machine casings of less climension'than the diameter of the table, comprising a boss having a plurality of radial extensions, and a plurality of radially arranged arms each of which has a hinged connection with an extension of the boss.
2. A'collapsible record supporting table adapted for use in portable talking machines comprising a member having a spindle re- -ceivingopening, and a plurality of record "saidimember;
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature hereto this 22nd day of December 1922. q I v FREDERICK FERRIS.
