IMPROVEMENT IN (ALF-lliiEI-UERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. Elll, dated January 19, 1575 ,application filed April 11, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, WAsHiNGToN SUTTON, of Macon county, Illinois, have invented a Oalf-Weaner, of which the following is a speciication:
My invention relates to a device for weaning calves and colts, and for preventing cows from sucking themselves, as Will be hereinafter more fully described and represented in the accompanying drawings.
A represents a seinicircular piece of metal provided with prongs B B. O is a metal prong provided with holes c c and knob b. O is slotted and threaded, as .shown in the drawing, and is screwed into piece A. a. a are pins for the purpose of holding pieces G O in position. b b are knobs composed of rubber or other soft material to prevent hurting the animals nose.
rlhe device is adjusted by plaein g knobs b b in the animals nose, with piece A resting on its upper lip. The distance between knobs b b may be increased or lessened by means of pin a operating in holes c c, and by means of threaded piece C', slot c', and pin a.
The prongs O O are adjusted, as shown in the drawing, for weaning purposes. When used to prevent cows sucking themselves the pins et a are removed, the prongs G C made to describe a half-revolution, and the pins readjusted. rThis arrangement brings the points of said prongs back of their bearings in A, and also gives thein a backward and downward inclination.
I claim as my invention- 1. The curved prongs O C in combination with frame A, carrying spurs B B, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. rlhe curved prongs O C provided with knobs and adjustable in frame A, substantially as described.
