Description
JLHERALD & E. S. BUMSEY.
, Door-Hangers.
NO']58,796 PatentedJan.l9,1875
M /JW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HERALD AND EDWARD S. RUMSEY, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,796, dated January 19, 1875; application filed November 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN HERALD and EDWARD S. RUMSEY, of Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Door- Hangers, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention relates to that class of doorhangers which traverse a horizontal track, and
particularly to the combination and construction of the hanger-plate, roller, and cap'piece, the object being to obviate the complication of the ordinary article in the details of casting, to give the required strength to the parts, and
to simplify the general arrangement.
y is an inside view of the cap-piece, showing the recess-bearing for the end of the roller-pin. Fig. 5 is the roller.
A is the hanger-plate, which has a roller-recess, to, in the center of which projects the roller-pin B, which is cast in the same piece, whereby the strength of the plate is increased,
and the ordinary fitting obviated. There is a groove, b, over the roller-pin B in the plate,
for the reception of oil for lubricating the roller-bearing. The inside of the cap-piece 0 also has a recess, a, for the roller, and a cast recessbearing, 0, for the end of the pin B, which also increases the strength of the part, and obviates the usual. fitting. The roller D is cast with a plane face, and a hole in the hub. The roller-faceof the ordinary hanger has a cast groove to guide it on the track, which complicates the process of casting by the use of the required chills and cores, which usually leave the work imperfect, and liable to derangementwhen in operation. The roller D is guided on the track by the slot d, which fits over the track, and is formed by the connection of the hanger-plate A and cap-piece U, as shown by Fig. 3. The work is finished after casting by simply placing the cap-piece in position, and securing it by rivets or bolts.
We claim as our invention- The hanger-plate A and roller-pin B, of one piece, in combination with the cap piece 0, having a hollowed recess for the end bearing of the pin, and the roller D, constructed substantially as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
