GAS-BURNER STRUCTURE FOR BAKERS OVENS.

This invention relates, generally, to improvements in bakers ovens provided with gas burners as the source of heat.
Our invention has for its principal object to provide a novel construction and arrangementof combustion chamber beneath the oven bed shelf, in which are disposed gas burners of the pipe type, adapted to extend, preferably, from the front of the oven ap proximately throughout its entire depth, together with a novel construction and ar rangeinent of means for so supplying air to the burners to support combustion of the gas delivered therefrom, that uniform and complete combustion of such gas throughout the entire lengths of the burners is assured, and consequently a uniform and properly diffused heat is produced without waste or odor, and without the production of dirt, soot or similar undesirable effects of incomplete or irregular combustion.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel means for insuring the initial ignition of the gas burners tl'iroughout their entire length whenever gas is delivered to and through the same.
Other objects of this invention, not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the same.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a partial front elevation of a bakers oven provided with gas burners and constructed in accordance with the principles of our invention; Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical transverse section, taken on line 22 in Figure 1, but drawn on an enlarged scale; Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail vertical longitudinal section, taken on line q3-3 in Figure 2, but drawn on a further enlarged scale; Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical transverse section, taken on line 4% in Figure 3; Figure 5 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of a burner baffle; and Figure 6 is a similar view showing a modified construction of said burner baffle.

the principles of our present invention. In its general features of construction the oven consists of a main housing comprising outer enclosing walls 2, preferably of the double or hollow type, the interior spaces of which are packed with mineral wool 3, to provide heat insulation, or any other suitable or well known construction may be employed. The interior of the main housing is suitably subdivided by tile walls, such as the tile bedshelf at shown in Figure 2, to provide in the upper portion thereof the oven proper or baking chamber 5. The space within said main housing, which is beneath said bedsholf t, provides a combustion chamber 6. Said combustion chamber space is further subdivided by a horizontal partition or false-bottom 7, spaced above the true bottom 8 of the housing, so as to provide, coextensive with and beneath the combustion cham-' her 6, an air-box or intake chamber 9. The enclosing wall 2 is pierced with openings which provide air intake ports 10 leading into said air-box or intake chamber 9.
The reference character 11 indicates the gas burners of the oven, the. same being of the pipe type; that is, being formed from suitable lengths of pipe provided at their upper faces with burner perforations 12, which are spaced apart to provide a longitudinally disposed row from end to end of each burner. Said burners ll'are suitably supported above the partition or false bottom 7, so as to extend from front to rear across the bottom of the combustion chamber 6, the same being laterally spaced apart at desired intervals.
The reference character 13 indicates a main gas supply pipe which extends exteriorly across the lower front of the oven structure. Each gas burner 11 is connected in communication with said supply pipe 13 by suitable feed connections 14, which eX- tend through the outer wall 2 into coupled relation with each burner. Each feed connection 14: maybe provided with an airmixing fixture l5, and may be further provided with a shutoff valve 16, so that the supply of gas to the burners may be inclividually and selectively controlled. Said main gas supply pipe 13 is provided with a main gas-cock or shut-off valve 17 to generallycontrol the supply of gas to the burners.

Sincethe onlyconnnunication which the combustion chamber 6 possesses with the outside atmosphere is by Way oi the air-h 2-; 'o'r intake chamber 9 through the air ports IS in the partition or false bottom 7 (said airbon' or iiitake'recciving; the air through the intake ports 10), it follows that .air to provi'de oxygen to support the combustion of :gas at the burners 11 is evenly distributed through said air ports 18 beneath said burners'and throughout the entire length of the latter, Without regard to the temperature inside the conibustion chamber 6, in other lSl) flanges tend not only to cause an upward draft of air through the air ports 18, but also tend to deflect or direct the incoming air toward t-l'ie'points of combustion of the gas issuing from the burner openings 12, thereby assuring both a continuous flow of air from the air box 9 in sutlicient volume to assure complete combustion of the gas issuing from the burners at all points through out the length of the latter, as well as a proper delivery of such air to the zone of combustion above each burner. Another advantage of the described arrangement of deflector flanges 19 is that the same tend to retard the admission of air through the air ports 18 beneath burners Which are not in use, since the heated condition of the combustion chamber tends to repel air from entering the combustion chamberin the absence of the draft induced by combustion oi 'as above the burner.
l rom the above description of the construction and operation of our novel gas burner arrangement for bakers ovens, it will be understood that a maximum eiliciency is obtained from each burner through the provision of means whereby sulficient air is delivered in support of combustion throughout the entire length of each burner, thus assuring even and complete combustion of gas throughout the entire interior of the combustion chamber, and a consequent uniform application of the resultant heat to and around the baking chamberli.
We are aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts oi our novel gas burner arrangement for bakers ovens, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, without departing from the scope of our present invention as described in the foregoing specification, and as defined in the appended claims. Hence, we do not limit our invention to the exact arrangements and combinations or the devices and parts set forth in the foregoing specification. nor do we confine ourselves to the exact details of the construction oi said parts as illustrated in the accannpanying drawings.
We claim 1. The combination with a bakers oven provided with a baking chamber and adjacent combustion chamber of a partition means subdividing said combustion chamber to form an underlying air box having air intake ports conn'mn'iicating directly with the outer atmosphere, a plurality of perforated pipc gas burners within said combustion chamber above said partition means, n'ieans for supplying gas to said burners, said partition means having air delivery ports leading from said air box coincident to and beneath each burner, and inwardly and upwardly inclined deflector plates above said air delivery ports and arranged to overhang the sides of each burner for the purposes described.
2. The combination with a bakers oven provided with a baking chamber and adjacent combustion chamber of a partition means subdividing said combustion chamber to form an underlying air box having air intake ports communicating directly with the outer atmosphere, a plurality of pertor-ated pipe gas burners within said com bustion chamber above said partition means, means for supplying gas to said burners, said partition means having air delivery ports leading from said air box coincident to and beneath each burner, inwardly and upwardly inclined deflector plates above said air delivery ports and arranged to overhang the sides of each burner, and a baiile plate spaced above and longitudinally coextensive with each burner.

The combination with a bakers oven provided with a baking chamber and adjacent combustion chamber of a partition means subdividing said combustion chamber to form an underlying air box having air intake ports communicating directly with the outer atmosphere, a plurality of pertorated pipe gas burners within said combustion chamber above said partition means, said partition means having air delivery ports leading tr in. said air box coincident to and beneath each burner, inwardly and upwardly inclined deflector plates above said air delivery ports and arranged to overhang the sides oi each burner, a pilot burner to provide an ignition flame adjacent to each pipe burner, means for supplying gas to said pipe burners and to said pilot burner, a baffle-plate spaced above and longitudinally coextensive with each burner, and each battle-plate having at its under or burner facing side expansion compensating means comprising a plurality of spaced apart trans verse channels.

A gas burner structure for ovens or the like having a combustion chamber, conr prising an air box beneath the bottom of said combustion chamber, a perforate pipe gas burner extending across the bottom of said combustion chamber, said combustion chamber bottom having air delivery means leading from said air box coincident to and beneath said gas burner, and inwardly and upwardly inclined deflector plates above said air delivery means arranged to overhang the sides of said gas burner.

A gas burner structure for ovens or the like having a combustion chamber, comprising an an box beneath the bottom of said combustion chamber, a perforate plpe gas burner extending across the bottom 01- said combustion chamber, said combustion chamber bottom having air delivery means leading from said air box coincident to and beneath said gas burner, inwardly and upwardly inclined deflector plates above said air delivery means arranged to overhang the sides of said gas burner and a battle plate spaced above and longitudinally coextensive with said gas burner.

The combination with a perforate pipe gas burner ot a baiiie plate spaced above and longitudinally coextensive with said burner, mezms for adjustably and removably supporting said battle plate, and said baffle plate having at its under or burner facing side expansion compensating means comprising a plurality o1 spaced apart transverse channels.
15. The combination with a perforate pipe gas burner of a battle plate spaced above and longitudinally coextensive with said burner, said baffle plate having at its under or bu ner facing side expansion compensating means comprising a plurality of spaced apart transverse channels. t
