PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT B. FLAKE, 0F LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA.
MO]? OR SIM ILAR HOLDER.
This invention relates to a holder primarily adapted for use in connection with floor mops or the like.
It is aimed to provide an exceedingly simple and inexpensive holder of this char" acter which avoids the use of springs and which will enable the operator to stand erect while using the same.
Another object is to provide a novel construction wherein the same means is utilized for securing the parts of the clamp together and also for securing the same to the handle or intermediate part.
Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, of the device, in its operative position;
Figure 2 is an end elevation;
Figure 3 is a partial plan view on an enlarged scale, and
Figure 4: is a detail perspective view particularly illustrating the clamp and associated parts, disassociated to disclose details.
Referring specifically to the drawings, designates an elongated handle, usually of wood, of proper stoutness or girth to one end of which is attached in any suitable manner as at 11, a bifurcated holder 12, preferably of metal, the arms of which terminate in eyelets 13. Holder bars or clamp bars are provided at 14 and 15., Bolts 16 pass through the bars 14 and also through the eyelets 13, and above the eyelets, receive nuts 17. Clamp bar has openings 18 enlarged with respect to the bolts and through which the bolts pass whereby the bar 15 is slidably adjustable relatively to the bar 14 to clamp a mop or the like between them. Pressure is applied against the bar 15 through manipulation of wing nuts or the equivalent 19 on said bolts. The bar 15 has side lugs at 20 between which the bar 14: slides and by which it is guided.
Application filed April 21, 1925.
Seria] No. 2 1,832.
Particular attention is called to the fact that the handle 10, adjacent to the lower end thereof has a crook or is offset downwardly at 21 so that, as shown in Figure 1, the operator may hold the device in opera tive position while standing erect, thus overcoming the necessity of bending incidental to mopping as is the case at present.
In use, the mop is applied removably to the device and the bar 14 removed. or while that bar is in place but spaced a sufficient distance from the bar 15. \Vith the mop in place, the wing nuts 19 are tightened and thus the mop is clamped in place. Accordingly when the handle is manipulated, the mop will operate without the necessity of the operator bending his back or moving out of an erect position. It will thus be realized that the same bolts are used to secure the holder 12 to the bars, as secures the bars adjustably together.
Changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention 1. A device of the class described comprising a clamping bar, a clamping bar adjustable relatively thereto, bolts connecting said clamping bars together, end lugs on one clamping bar in guiding engagement with the other clamping bar, a handle having portions disposed between the bars and through which said bolts removably pass, and means on said bolts to secure the handle rigidly to one of said bars.
2. A device of the class described comprising a clamping bar, a second clamping bar, bolts adjustably securing said clamping bars together, a holder adapted for connection to a handle, said holder having eyelets disposed between said bars through which said bolts removably pass, nuts on said bolts between the bars clamping said eyelets to one of said bars and nuts clamping the other bar against the first mentioned nuts.
In testimony whereof I my signature.
ROBERT B. FLAKE.
