PATENT OFFICE.

FURNITURE COVER.
This invention relates to an ornamental form and more particularly to a table cloth, combining ornamentation and utility.
It has for its object the forming of a furniture cover with a pocket or receptacle in which the ornamental features of the cover and the pocket combine in a peculiar manner. A further object of the invention is the provision in a table cover of a receptacle to contain a napkin or other article and ornamenting the receptacle and cover whereby a finished design is produced when the pocket .is used or when it is empty. A'still further object of the invention is the provision in a card table cover of a series of napkin-holding pockets so arranged upon the cover andin relation to each other as to form no obstacle to the use of the cover in card playing and yet be useful when refreshments are served.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear in the following description and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
indicate like parts throughout the several figures, in WlllCh Figure 1 is a plan of a table cover embodying my invention, Figure 2 is an opened napkin chosen to illustrate my invention, and Figure 3 is a sectional view through one of the pockets with folded na ln'n therein.
%hile acard table cover rectangular in plan, provided with napkin-holding pockets,
has been chosen to illustrate the invention, it will be appreciated that the inventive idea may beembodied in ornamental forms or other confi rations, and thatrece tacles of somewhat 'fi'erent character coul as well 40 have been chosen. 1
" The table cover 10 is usually made of cloth which is sold as stamped goods ready to be worked with colored threads into a pleasing ornamental design, the pocket 11 to be formed on the cover in any suitable manner; As shown, it is a separate piece or flap to be sewed or. stitched to the body of the cover to the form of a basket body. The flap forms with the body of the cover a pocket In the drawings like reference characters properly folded corner 14 of the napkin 12 is ornamented with like sprays, 15, 15" whereby when the napkin is properly folded and inserted in the pocket, the embroidered ornamentation on the napkin will blend with that on the cover to form a pleasing whole.
It will be observed that at the corner '16 of the cover has been shown a napkin in place while at the corner 17 the napkin has been omitted. In either case, however, the ornamentation has been preserved.
While a cover with a single pocket as just described is within my contemplation of the invention a cover which is provided with a series of these pocketsall projecting inwardly and spaced upon the cover in the manner shown offers particular advantages in an article of this kind. The center of such a cover is open so that the playing of cards is not interfered with. The space immediately in front of a player is likewise unobstructed. At the same time, the pocket at the corner affords a suitable holder for a napkin which is to be used upon the serving of refreshments while at the same time combining with the ornamentation of the cover in the production of a pleasing effect.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An ornamental form adapted for sale as an entirety embodying an embroidered table cover, an embroidered pocket formed thereon in simulation of an object and a folded and embroidered napkin adapted to be inserted in said pocket, the embroidery on the pocket and on the exposed portion on the napkin and on the contiguous portion ofthe 2. An ornamental form adapted for sale as an entirety embodying an embroidered table cover, a pocket formed thereon, and a folded and ornamented napkin adapted to be inserted in said pocket, the ornamentation on the exposed portion of the napkin forming with the embroidery on the contiguous portion of the cover a complete ornamental design, and the napkin being removable from the pocket without destruction of said ornamental design.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
' HARRY LICHTMAN.
