ELECTROMGNETIC APPARATUS.
My present invention relates to electromagnetic apparatus and with regard to the more specific features thereof to relays for transmitting a signal concurrently to a plurality of stations.
An object of the invention is to provide ay construction for the above purpose, which shall be particularly simple, rugged and inexpensive.
Another object is to provide a compact apparatus of the above type, in which a substantial number of separate circuits can be reliably controlled concurrently without the likelihood of mechanical or electrical interference between conductors or circuits.
The invention is applicable to re and burglar alarm, factory call, landother signalling systems, and, in general, to systems of that type in which a signal is to be concurrently transmitted to a plurality of stations.
According to a feature of the invention, the armature of a single electromagnetic relay concurrently controls the circuits to all of the stations. Preferably the armature carries a plurality of electrical contacter elements for engagement and dissengagement with contacts carried by astationary insulating support. In the specific and preferred embodiment shown, the stationary contacts with associated binding posts are carried by an insulating plate which is, in turn, mounted upon the coil structure. The contactors carried upon the armature are ireferably bridging Contact blades each to cle-se circuit between tivo' or more of the binding posts, in order to connect a source of electricity with ene or more signal registering or indicating instruments at difierent stations.
According to another feature of the in vention, the insulating plate that carries the contacts is preferably fitted over the end of the magnetic core structure, projecting beyond the coil, so that the armature may be pivoted in the same position with respect to the core as if the insulating plate were not provided, and the magnetic reluctance of the apparatus is not increased.
According to another feature, the insulating plate carries a back stop, spaced therefrom by a small gap to 'limit the separa tion of the armature from the coil and the back stop may carry adjusting means for positioning` the armature, or, if desired, further electrical contacts.

'I his invention has certain features in common with that of my copending application, Serial No. eltlAS/T, filed July 7th, 1920, in which is claimed the subject-matter common to the two inventions.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a base 1 preferably of wood mounted upon a metallic supporting frame 2. A stamped or sheet brass standard 3 has a foot 4L. secured to the base by screws as at 5, and an upstanding leg G to which the ele-ctromagnet unit 7 is secured with its axis extending parallel to the base. rIhe unit 7 preferably comprises a magnetic cross-bar or piece 8 centrally secured to the upstanding leg G of the standard preferably by a pair of screws To the cross-bar 8 are secured preferably by screws as at 10 and in parallel relation, the magnetic cores 1l... limits could be mounted thereon, and the contactors upon the armature could be similarly multiplied and arranged in as many or as ew mutually insulated groups as desired, depending on the. purpose to which the apparatus is to be applied.
In the preferred embodiment ot my inveir tion, it will be noted that the base carries merely the binding posts 56 through which the current impulse is directed to the electromagnet, the binding posts for the plurality of relay circuits being all conveniently mounted upon the insulatingl plate l5, which may without requiring any alteration in the. dimensions ot the ordinary relay base, be made ot suilicient size to accommodate the desired number ot binding posts. The insulating plate carrying the binding posts being mounted upon the projecting ends ot the electromagnetic cores, in etliect, takes up no useful space whatsoever and does not in any way atleet the reluctance of the niagnetic circuit, theair gap between the. cores and the armature not being increased with respect to constructions in which t-he cores are not employed as supporting means tor other elements.
lt should also be noted that the elect-rd magnetic coil could be mounted in other positions with respect to the base, that the base and coil anis could either or both be in a `vertical plane, if desired, and that the invention -could be carried out with a coil having but a single core. l prefer, however, the specific arrangement shown and described.
lt will thus be seen that there is herein described apparat-us in which the several features of this invention are embodied, and which apparatus in its action' attains the various objects of the invention and is well suited to meet the requirements ol' practical use.
As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing 'from the scope thereof, it is intended that all mat ter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

2. The combination in electromagnetic apparatus of a pair of parallel electromagnetic coils having cores projecting therebeyond,
an insulating plate having recesses iitted over the projecting ends ot said cores and tightly retained in place thereon, an armature beyond said plate and adjacent the projecting ends ol: said cores and coacting electrical contact means carried by said armature and said plate tor closing and opening an electric circuit in response to movement of the armature.
3. The combination in electromagnetic apparatus ot a base, an electromagnetic coil carried thereon, an insulating plate adjacent said coil, a pair ot binding posts extending through said plate and having contacts at one side thereof, and an armature tor said coil at the side ot said plate adjacent said contacts, said armature carrying electrical conducting means for bridging said contacts to close a circuit through said binding posts.
