Be it known thatl I, ALFRED ToWNsEND ELFQRD, of Oakland, inthe count-y of Alameda and State of y California, have invented certainlmprove'ments in Inside Blinds for Windows, of lwhich the following is a specifi i non 0f inside blinds for windows by nl@ combination oi' slats having long tenons or pins, side grooves, and sockets, with rod and lockknob, combined and operated as will be hereinafter more fully explained, reference being -V had to the accompanying' drawings, making part of this specicat-ion.

Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing a sectionof slatted blind, with a section cut out of the frame to show the tenons ror pins upn the- -ends of the slats, and the connecting-rod to which they are attached, and by which they are operated. Fig. 2 is a section, showing the` position of the end of the slats,and the manner of attaching the rod by whichv they are operated. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in vertical cross-section.

The followingis the operationof the same: The bead-strip J, through -whiehthe tenons or pins pass, and which form labearings on which the slats are pivoted, are attached bys'erew's, and`.may be taken out for the purpose ot' taking the slats out, which may be done by unscrewing the knob E from the rod 1 ),when

the Whole may be withdrawn from the groove G. The rod D is attached to the pins or tenons C, like the attachment of the rods to the slats, in the ordinary mode, where the attachment is made t) the edge Ioi' the same by means of small wire staples. The ends of the pins G have a small ring or ferrule to holdv them from splitting, and t?) form a journal, and operate in the sockets H. The knob E is attached to the rod D by means of a screwtbread, and when the slats are adjusted, as required, the screw is operated by turning the knob and setting it first, and locking the sla-ts in position.

The advantages of my invention are, that all outside attachment oi' rodsto the slats is dispensed with, leaving the surface smooth for varnishing, and giving a much handsomer finish to the blind; and, in the increased facility of locking slats in any desired position of opening or closing, or at any angle ot incli; nation. r

4Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letiters Patent, is

The slats B, having long tenons C, incombination with the side grooves G and sockets H, when the same are operated by means ot' the rod D, to which rodthe't'enons are attached by blindstaples, and by the lock-knob E, orits equivalent, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as described and shown, for the purposes set forth.v
