Description

einer sara rRANiILIN R. oseoon, or GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 108,819, dated November 1,1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING WINDOW-BLIN'DS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN 1t. Oseoon, of the city of Grand Rapids, county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improved Folding Window-Blind; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and sufficient description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, and the same are madea part of this specification.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a general View of my invention in perspective.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of' my invention, showing the arrangement of the slats ot' the-blind and the arrangement'of the cords and pulley by which the blind is operated.
Figure 3 is a sectional view ot' the side piece yor frame which supports the blind.
lo enable others who are skilled in the branch of mechanics to which the manufacture of my invention belongs to make the same, I will proceed to describe `its construction.
In fig. 1, FF represents the frame designed to support the slats, and is fixed in a stationary position on the inside of the wind-ow to which the blind is applied.
The slats S Sare supported at either endV by strong tape or webbing, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, by WV.
lhe slats are fastened to the tape or webbing by means cf nails, bolts, or screws passing through the webbing into the centenof the ends ofthe slats, thus leaving each slat free to turn in any desired direction. 'lhese nails or screws are shown in g. 2 by E E.
The side pieces F and 14" are grooved, as shown in fig. 3. The ends of the slats moving in these grooves are thus held in place.
The lower slat is made double, as shown in iig. 2, by lI R P. It is constructed of a single piece of wood, and is not designed to turn, as are the other slats, but to fit closely into the grooves, and act as a guide in raising and lowering the blind.
Instead of using the part I R P', an ordinary slat may bc used by fastening the webbing to the outer edges, instead of to the center, as is done with the revolving slats. v A
. The upper end of the webbing is attached to the cords a and a', which cords may be fastened to pins, as shown in fig. 1.
By removing the cords a and a from the pins the top slats of the blind are lowered.
' each slat may C and 'C' are two cords, used in raising and lowering the blind from the but-ton.
rlhe cord Of passes over the pulley B', from thence to the right of the frameV and over the pulley B, thence downward in thc grooves in F and Aattaches to guide l It P'.
'The cord opasses over the pulley B and downward in the groove in the frame F, and attaches to the 'end of the part l It P'.
These two cords may be united and held ny means of a bolt, as shown in fig. 1, by V.
By raising or lowering the cords C C' the blind "is lowered or raised at pleasure.
In tig. 1, 'l is an ordinary tape or ribbon attached to the edges of the revolving slats in the following manner: The tape or ribbon is looped at suitable distances, the loops secured or fastened together, and the ends of the loops fastened to the inner edges of the revolving slats, as shown in the figure. The lower end of the tape may be provided with a tassel. for convenience in using and for ornament-ation. By opermay be turned without aifectiug the remainder ot' the slats.
The 'devicei'or raising and lowering the blind-from the bottom may be applied with equal advantage in lowering and raising the blind' from the'top. A
I design my invention to be used only as an'insid window-blind. It is more easily adjusted and more ,fully adjustable than ordinary blinds, inasmuch as l adjusted separately. It can also be manufactured at very .little expense.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y 1. The combination and arrangement of the cords a d' and web W', for-the purpose of lowering and raising the blindindependent of the cords G C'-,'sbstan '.tially as herein set forth.
2. The looped tape or ribbon T, in combination with the slats 'S S', when arranged to operate as and for the EDWARD TAGGART, CEAS. O. SIRIoNns.
