KEY CASE.
Application lcd February 26, 1925. Serial No. 11,639.
My invention r'elates to key cases, and more particularly to pocket key cases of the type in which a series of keys are contained and enclosed within a folding cover of leather or the like, and are movably suspended or attached therein by connections of a swivel hook character.
My invention has for its purpose the provision of an improved suspensional connection or attachment for the individual keys, whereby any particular key may be more readily withdrawn from the case and more readily and efliciently turned or manipulated.
The invention consists therefore in a key case, of the type referred to, wherein the suspensional or attachment for the key or keys within the cover consists of a short chain connection and is provided with a plurality of swivel links, and wherein the suspensional connections for the keys are individually attached to tongues or loops formed by slitting or piercing an inner lining of the cover.
The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in whichz- Figure 1 is an elevational view of. a pocket key case in accordance with the 1nvention, showing the case closed.
Figure 2 is an elevational view showing the case open.
Figure S'is an elevational open view of a slightly mo'dilied form of the invention, showing also the keys and the method of withdrawing the same for use.
In a convenient embodiment of the invention, the key case is provided in the form of a leather or like cover comprising an intermediate rectangular body part 1 and an opposite pair of infolding side flaps 2 and 3, adapted to be secured in overlapping relation upon the body part by means of a snap fastener 4, or the like. The intermediate body part 1 is reinforced on its inner face by a leather or like strip adhesively or otherwise attached thereto, and this strip is longitudinally slit (Figure 2) or pierced (Figure 3) for a short distance at one end to provide a transversely spaced series of short narrow tongues 6, corresponding in number to the number of keys to be contained within the case. The reinforcing strip 5 is transversely stitched as at 7 to the Abody part 1 across the bases of these terminal tongues 6, and the tongued outer extremity of the strip 5 is also transversely stitched as at 8, preferably or conveniently with the addition of a narrow binding strip 9 (Figure 2), for instance of leather, or o-f leather superimposed on linen, the tongues 6 being thereby adapted to provide a laterally spaced series of small open loops adjacent the one extremity of the body part 1 of the case.
To each of these small tongues or loops 6 is attached a short chain 10, having at its end adjacent the loop a swivel link 11, that is .to say, an attachment link embodying a swivel pin, and having at its opposite free end a swivel hook 12 of ordinary form for .engagement with the key. The intermediatepart of the chain may comprise either a' simple link of plain round or other form (Figure 3), or a pair or plurality of such plain links, either alone or in conjunction with an interposed plurality of finer and more flexible links (Figure 2). The bodv part 1 of the case is provided with the usual chain attachment eyelet 13 at the end opposite the series of loops 6.
When the case is in use and is closed up, as shown in Figure 1, the series of keys 14; are contained and enclosed in the usual manner, except that the flexibility and longitudinal adaptability of the attachment chains 10 permits of a more compact assembly of the series of keys within the case. When the case is opened for selection and use of any particular key, as shown in Figure 3, the flexible chain connection 10 facilitates the ready withdrawal of the key, as shown at 14;, whilst the double swivelling action of the chain entirely avoids any difficulty in turning and manipulating the key.
What l claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A key-case comprising a body-part, an inner lining therein formed with open loops, swivel links suspended from said loops, swivel members for the attachment of keys thereto, and flexible connections between said swivel links and swivel members.
Q. A key-case comprising a body-part, an inner lining therein slotted at one end so as to form open loops and transversely stitched close to said loops, swivel links suspended from said loops, swivel members for the attaohment of keys thereto, land flexible consuspended from said loops, swivel members neetions between said swivel links and for the attachment of keys thereto, and ilexiswvel members. ble connections between saidv swivel links 3. A1. keyase Comprising :L: body-part, an andszwivel-lnembers.
inner lining therein slotted at one end'so as In witness whereof I have hereunto set my to forni open loops and transversely stitched close to said loops, u narrow. binding: strip on the other side of said loops, swivel links hand.
