Application filed January 30, 1%26. Serial No. 84,930.
This invention relates to games and game devices.
The principal object of the present invention isthe production of a game apparatus comprising novel features and appurtenances with which persons may play an interesting and amusing game.
The nature of the invention .andits distinguishing features will appear when the following specification is'read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the diagram board of the game apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the spinner.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the tokens or pieces.
Referring now more particularly to Fig. 1 of the drawing, it will be apparent that, the game apparatus of the present invention will include a board 10 of any suitable material such as cardboard which may be of any size, and which is preferably twentytwo inches long and sixteen inches Wide. The board 10 is capable of being folded at its middle. The board on one face thereof has a diagram which may be printed to present what will be known as a battle area 11 and token or piece areas 12. The battle area 11 is subdivided by parallel lines 13 into goals let. There are twenty-five of the lines 13 spaced equidistantly, the space between the lines representing a distance 15 of one knot. Each of the goals 14 consists of three knots. At the dividing line of each goal there. appears indicia or designations 16, respectively, as follows: Starting goal, First goal, Put reserve ships in action, Second goal, Put disabled ships in action, Main goal and Last line of retreat. The said indices or designations occur at the dividing lines of the several goals 14 and are duplicated. It will therefore be understood that two playing sections are provided for opposing players. It is to be noted that each starting goal of each playing section occurs between the Main goal and the goal Last line of retreat, and'that there are distances between the Starting goal and the goal Last line of retreat and the Starting goal and the Main goal. The battle area 11 does not take up the en tire surface of the board 10 but allows mar ginal spaces at each side of the board. At each corner of the board 10 there is a group of three token or piece areas 12. Each group of areas 12 is similar. One area 12 contains the legend Put reserve ships here. the second contains the legend Put disabled ships here, and the third contains the legend Put sunken ships here. Places 17 serve for containing advertising matter and the name by which the game is known which may be any preferred name.
In playing the game, tokens or pieces 18 in the form of battleships are provided, and will hereinafter be referred to as pieces. There are twelve pieces in all and will be made of any suitable material such as cardboard, wood or metal, and may be of anv preferred size. U
A device which serves to indicate offensive and defensive moves or plays to be made with the pieces 18 in connection with the diagram of the board 10 is provided and consists of the following appurtenances. A. spinner 19 comprising a dial 20 and a pointer 21. The dial 20 has nine subdivisions which are numbered at random as shown most clearly in Fig. 2 and the pointer :31 is capable of being spun with respect to subdivisions of the dial. The following directions are provided which may be on sepa rate card or may be printed in the subdivisions of the dial having corresponding numbers: Y
1. One enemy ship disabled if on second goal retreat one knot also.
2. Enemy fleet retreat one knot.
3. Player advance fleetone knot, enemy fleet retreat one knot.
1. Player retreat to nearest goal if on a goal stand fast, if in rear of starting goal advance to said goal.
5. Player advance fleet one knot.
6. One enemy ship sunk, player advance fleet one knot.
7. Player advance fleet to nearest goal, if on a goal spin again.
8. Stand fast.
9. Player retreat fleet one knot.
The following rules are to be observed in connection with the positions of the pieces and the positions at which they occur as the game progresses:
A fleet reaching first goal is entitled to put its reserve ships in action, and second goal its disabled ships in action if any. See diagram. g
If past second goal and retreating'to said goal, put. disabled ships in action if any.
