I UNITED T E s WILLIAM WESLEY BRAZZIL, 0F wIcHIrArALLs, TEXAS.
DISPLAY BULB ox;
Application filed April 18, 1925. Serial No. 24,218.
The present invention" relates to a box for displaying and storing small electric bulbs such as are sold in automobile accessory stores, and like places.
The object of the invention is to provide a box of this nature which will display the bulbs to advantage and which will allow easy and ready access to the bulbs by the attendant in the store.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a box in which is housed a plurality of panels adapted to hold small electric bulbs, said panels swinging to a substantially upright position when the door of the box is closed and to a substantially horizontal position when the door is open.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a box of this nature having testing sockets associated therewith in a convenient position.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the box embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough.
Figure 3 is another vertical section therethrough showing the closure or door in an open position, and
Figure 4 is a detail vertical section through the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the box includes a bottom 1, a slanting front. wall 2, a rear wall 3, side walls 4, and a top 5. It is to be noted that the rear wall 3 extends only a short distance upwardly from the bottom 1,and a closure or door 6 is hinged to the up er edge thereof and when closed abuts a cleat 7 depending from the top 5. The front wall 2 has its upper portion provided with an opening 8 in which is disposed a transparency 9. The rear, side, and front walls 2 form a battery compartment 10 in the bottom of the box and suitable clips 11 are provided therein on the bottom .1 for holding the battery 12 from which extends the leads 13 to,
plates are provided with a plurality of horizontally disposed slots 17 arranged in parallel vertical spaced relation, and'the inner ends of the slots align diagonally of the box, as will be evident from an inspection of Figure 2. A plurality of panels 18, 19 and 20 are disposed in the box and adjacent their bottom ends are provided with pintles 21 extending into the slots 17. The pintles of the upper or inner panel 18 engage in the upper slots 17 the pintles of the panel 19 engage in the intermediate slots, and the pintles of the bottom panel 20 engage the bottom slots ,17. The under surfaces of the panels 18, 19 and 20 have projecting rectangularly therefrom legs 22. The legs 22 on the panel 18 are adapted to engage the panel 19. The legs 22 on the panel 19 are adapted to engage the panel 20, and the legs 22 on the panel 20 are adapted to engage the closure 6. It will thus be seen that when the closure 6 is opened that the panels 18, 19 and 20 will move to substantially horizontal position as shown in Figure 3, and when the closure is moved to a closed position the panels will move to a substantially upright inclined position as shown in Figure 2. These panels are provided with apertures for receiving the bulbs. The panels may be provided with suitable indicia indicating the sizes of the bulbs and the bulb of the proper size may be easily taken from the panels and tested in one of the sockets. Any suitable means 25 may be used for holding the closure 6 in a closed position.
From the above detailed description it will be readil apparent that the device is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designated. It allows ready access to the bulbs and displays them to advantage for advertising purposes. Thus the box can be placed on a counter and the prospective purchasers may see the bulbs through the transparency 9, thus knowing that the storekeeper has the bulbs for sale. If a purchase is to be made the attendant may quickly let down the closure 6 and have access to any of the bulbs on the various different panels.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed merely by way of example and numerous changes in the details of construction, in the sizes, and in the combination and. arrangement of partsmuy be resorted? to withoutdepartinggfrom the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thusdescribedtlieinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the class-described; abox, a hinged closure for the box, a pair of' inclined and capable of gravitationally swinging in the directionxinwhich: the closure is opened, legs extending from the panels for holding them in spaced relation to each-other and in spaced relation to the closure whereby when the closure is opened the panels will swing to an extended position-from the box and when the closure is closed, the panels will be swung to an upright position in=the box;
In testimony whereof I affix my signature;
WVILLIAM VESLEY BRAZZIII...
