GEORGE E. cnoueng, or lineinnit," oonivnoriourr;
y lemon menswea Application filed. February 23, 1922. Serial ire-538,446.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, 'GEORGE citizen of the United States, and a resident of Meriden, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful lmp'rovenients'in Price Indicators, of whichthe following is aspecificai 'intendedthat the card will be left 'Iin" place within the flanges 9, so that the inscription' thereon mayv be readily seen tion.
This invention relates to improvements'in 10 price indicators, and more especially to indicating means for designating the price: of gasoline. 7
An object of the invention is to providea suitable indicating device for use at automobile or gasoline service stations to clearly show 'the price of gasoline per gallon.
Another-object of the invention is to provide a price indicating device for gasoline stations, whichwill be so constructed, that any. combination B. CLoUoH, a
digits may be quickl formed, toishowth e price of gasoline or 011' at the time the purchase .is'made.
provide a suitable price indicating device 5 for gasoline service stations which will be simple, cheap to manufacture," and highly efiicient and durable in use. i
a With these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied {in practice. In the accompanying drawings which constitute a part of the application, v
Fig l is a perspective view of the price indicating device, showing'the several-parts in knocked-down position.
Fig, 2 is a perspective it in closed or assembled position.
is' 'provided with coil springs pressing-said-franie.11 against the backwall tangular openings 6 and 7 These openings.
Gland/7 are-covered by glass plates $,-and theopeiiing 7iextends=below theio'penings 6 and is provided: at its upper and-lower edges with angular flanges 9; 9i card 10 is adapted to slide into theflanges 9 and has printed:
thereon Per gallon including tax?; a It is through the front of the opening 7 ported'on a rod v between the side walls of the casing land 13-for norinally- '12, which rod is pivoted ofthecasingl. The frame 11. is preferably formed from a single piece of sheet metal, and has its 'si'desand bottoni'bent "over to forrnangular flanges l'rand 15. Adjacentthe central. portions of said. frame,"'and V I stamped upwardly thereforin'are oppositely A further object of the invention is to I extending angular cars 16,- 16*.
- two packs or" sets of digit cards 17 are pro-i 'vided." These packs ofdigitcards are de- I tachablyheld in place in the two parts of the .frame or holder 11 by 'ni'eans of the flan es-14, 7,1,5, andje'ars 16,116, so that the.
digit bn'the" front card ofea ch pack will bef visible";through the front openings 6 jofuthe cover 4; ""Each pack is' provided with cards :whose digits "run from-0 to 9; and each card view taken" from" the rearof the indicating device, showing Fig. 3 isaf perspective view"of the 'at taching nieans for the same.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of thedevice. Like characters of reference are used throughout the several views to designate ing are dependingclips or hinges 2, which cooperate with like members 3, on a cover 4,
the same being held inoperative position by means of a pivot pin 5.
The cover 4 is of the same general shape as the casing 1, and is provided with rechas an index tab on its upper edge which corresponds withijthe largecligits printed?? thereon. A g
rooved or; dove-tailed socket member I 18 is attached, totheback-ofthe casing l in'any suitable manner, as by'bolts 718 This:
J socket r'ne'iriber 18 is adapted to receive a wedge portioi'ii 19 which may be secured to a post" ,or positioned in any other suitable place near a gasolinefilling station;
In order to detachably lock the cover 4' to the casing 1, a threaded bolt 20 is .pivotally connected to a block in a U-clip 21 .on
the cover.
,In operation, assuming that-the indicating A thumb nut 22 threaded on the Y vbolt 20 serves to hold the cover firmly to g the reading.
device is in closed position, when it is desired to change the reading of the price of gasoline, it will only be necessary to unscrew the thumb nut 22, and open the cover at by grasping the knob 23. The frame or card holder 11 may then be swung out against the tension of the springs 13 to the position shown in Fig. 1, and the desired cards placed at the front of each pack, thereby correcting As soon as the holder is released, it will snap back under the influence of the springs 13 into position against the rear wall of the casing. The cover 4 may then be closed and locked.
It will be understood that this device may be made in any desired size or shape, and that it may be used for advertising any desired materials including alcohol, oils, etc., but it is preferably used in connection With the selling of gasoline.
Many minor changes in details of construction may be resorted to Without departure from the spirit of the invention.
While there has been disclosed in this 'specification one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure but may hemodified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which'it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:
1. An indicator comprising a casing, a perforated cover hinged to said casing, a card holder hinged within said casing, tensioning means for said card holder operating to force said card holder against said casing, and a plurality of digit cards within said holder.
2.-An indicator comprising a casing, a cover hinged to said casing. said cover having a perforation, a card holder hingedwithin said casing, said holder having a plurality of intermediate oppositely directed upstand ing flanges a pack of digit cards carried by said holder and positively held within said flanges, so that the face of said pack will register with the perforation in the cover,
same in closed position.
whereby any desired number may be displayed through the cover.
4. An 1nd1cator compnsmg a casing. a
card holder hinged therein, a spring operating to force said card holder against said casing, a cover hinged to said casing. said cover having an opening, a plurality oi packs of digit cards carried by saidliolder adapted to register with and show through the opening of the cover, and means carried by the casing and cover for locking the 5. A price indicator comprising a casing.
a card holder hinged therein. a cover hinged to said casing, a plurality of packs of di t cards carried by said holder, tensioning means for forcing the holder against said casing, means for locking the casing-v and cover together, and attaching means ried by the casing whereby said indicator may be secured to any desired object. o
.6. A price indicator for gasoline stations. comprising a box having'a casino, a cover digit cards carried by.
car-i pivoted to said casing, and meansfor car-1.
rying a plurality of packs of index cards" pivoted within said box and visible through said cover for displaying digits representmg the prlce, said ,means having a spring connected therewith for forcin said means;
against said casing.
7. A price indicator for gasoline, alcohol, 011 and the like compr sing a water-proof receptacle, one'side of said receptaclehavmg digits being visible through the transparent portion of the receptacle, said means being spring-pressed to hold it against said casing. In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature to this specification.
