It will be noted that the inclined surfaces 50 and 51 of the triangular supports 48 and 49 are in planes parallel to the inclined surfaces 22 of the wedgeshaped members 15.
The extremities of the grooved or channelled members 36 and 37 remote from the planer are preferably provided with suitable legs or supports 53, and suitable braces 54 are connected to the mid-points of the channelled members 36 and 37 and to the up standing member 14 in the rear of the base plate 10.. It is to be understood that when the auxiliary table is of considerable length, the use of the legs 53 is of preferable construction, but if the auxiliary table is of a smaller dimension, the use of the braces 54 alone may be sufficient to support the grooved or channelled members 36 and 37.
The operation of this device is as follows :Upon rotating the hand wheel 26, the jack screw 25 produces either a forward or backward movement of the block 27, causing-a forward or backward movement, as the case may be, of the cross bar 16. This action produces movement of the wedgeshapedmembers 15 and upon these members being moved rearwardly would cause the planer table to be elevated. In a like manner, if the wedge-shaped members were drawn forwardly, the planer table will be allowed to be lowered because of gravity. Upon the cross bar 16 being moved rearwardly, the connecting rods 40 and 41 together with the axle or shaft45 carrying the pulley wheels 46 and 47 will also be moved rearwardly an equal amount, the connecting rods 40 and 41 sliding within the grooves or channels 38 and 39 of the members 36 and 37.
The rearward movement of the pulley wheels 46 and 47 which engage the lower inclined surfaces 50 of the triangular supports 48 and 49, will cause the rearward end of the auxiliary table to be raised in amanner similar to that which causes the elevation of the planer table by the wedge-shaped members 15.
The converse is also true. When the cross bar 16 is moved forwardly, the wedge-shaped members 15 are also moved forwardly and the pulley wheels 46 and 47 are brought forwardly, all an equal amount. The movement of the pulley wheels 46 and 47 and the movement of the wedge-shaped members 15 being in parallel planes and bearing'upon inclined surfaces which are also in parallel planes, will cause the supports of both the planer table and the auxiliary table to be lowered an equal amount, thereby providing vertical adjustment of boththe planervtable and the auxiliary table simultaneously. I
In view of the factthat the auxiliary in Figs. 1 to 5.
table is secured by bolts30 and the channelled members 36 and 37 are secured to v.the horizontal extension 35 by bolts 30,
it is apparent that the auxiliary table, when not desired, may be easily and quickly detached from the planer proper.
It is seen from the above that I have provided means for automatically and simultaneously vertically adjusting both the planer table and the auxiliary table by the simple and single movement of the hand wheel :26.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6, a pair of horizontal rails 60 are substituted for the grooved or channelled members 36 and 37. The shaft or axle 45 has at its ends the pulley wheels 46 and 47 provided with flanges 46 and 47 respectively, which bear upon the inside faces of the triangular supports 48 and 49. A pair of rollers 61 are loosely mounted upon the shaft 45 adjacent the pulley wheels 46 and 47. These rollers 61 are adapted to roll upon the rails 60. The connecting rods 40 and 41 are secured to the shaft 45 between'the rollers 61, so that as these connecting rods are drawn rearwardly, the shaft 45 is drawn with them and has the rollers 61 rolling'upon the rails 60. The pulleys 46 and 47 support and roll under the inclined surfaces of the tri angular plates 48 and 49 in identically the same manner as in the modification shown This .modification is designed to reduce the friction and=reduce the force necessary to move the connecting rods 40 and 41 backward and forward to adiust the auxiliary supporting table.
It is to be understood that the attached drawings and the above description are used for illustrative purposes only' and I limit myself only in the scope as defined by the appended claims. T
lVhat is claimed is:
1. A planer having a table, means forming an inclined surface upon the under side of said table, a slidable wedge engaging said inclined surface, means for slidmg said wedge to raise and lower said table, an
auxiliary table detachably secured to said table. means forming inclined surfaces upon the under side of said auxiliary table, means engaging said inclined surface and supporting said auxiliary table, and means for actuating said means so asrto raise and lower said auxiliary table.
2. A planer having a table, means forming an inclined surface upon the under side of said table, a slidable wedge engaging said inclined surface. means for sliding said wedge to raise and lower said table. an auxiliary table d'etachably secured to said table, means forming inclined surfaces upon the under side of said auxiliary table, and means engaging said inclined surface and supporting said auxiliary table connected to. said wedge whereby vertical adjustment of said table will cause simultaneous adjustment of the auxiliary table.
- 3. A planer having a table, wedges supporting said table, means for moving said wedges to vertically adjust said table, guides secured to the table, members movable upon the guides and connected to said wedges, an auxiliary table secured to said table, and means providing inclined surfaces for supporting said auxiliary table upon said members whereby when the table is vertically adjusted by said wedges, the auxiliary table will be adjusted with it.
4. A planer having a table, wedges supporting said table, means for simultaneously moving said wedges so as to vertically adjust the table, an auxiliary table secured to said table, means providing inclined surfaces upon the under side of said auxiliary table, rollers engaging said inclined surfaces, and means connecting said rollers to said wedges, so as to move therewith whereby adjustment of said table will produce adjustment of said auxiliary table therewith.
5. A planer having a table, means providing an inclined surface upon the under side of said table, an auxiliary table detachably secured to said table, means providing an inclined surface upon the under side of the auxiliary table, which is parallel to the inclined surface on the planer table, supporting means engaging the inclined surfaces on said tables, and means for shifting said supporting means relatively to said tables, so as to simultaneously raise or lower said tables.
6. An auxiliary table adapted to be applied to planers which have tables provided upon their under sides with inclined surfaces which are engaged by shiftable supports, said auxiliary table having an inclined surface on its under side adapted to assume a position parallel to the inclined surfaces on the planer table when the auxiliary table is applied thereto, supporting means engageable upon the inclined surfaces of the auxiliary table, said supporting means being shiftable relatively to said auxiliary table, andmeans for connecting said supporting means to the shiftable supports of the planer whereby the planer and auxiliary table may be simultaneously raised and lowered upon movement of the planer support.
