s'rocnrne FORM. 7 v7 Application sled April 1923. Serial No. seems.
T 0 all whom it con-0cm:
Be it known that we, HARRY F. IVAN-\- MAKER, J r., and ARTHUR M. Gamnonnia, citizens of the United States, residing in Phila delphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Stocking Forms, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to certain improvements in forms on which stockings and like articles are dried.
One object of the invention is to make a detachable toe section so that toe sections of various sizes can be used with a single leg section.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and efiective means for attaching and rigidly holding a toe section to the leg section.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a metallic stocking form illustrating our invention;
Fig. 2 is a view, similar to Fig. 1, showing a portion of the form in section to illustrat the locking device;
Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 3-3, Fig 2;
Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the toe portion of a form; and v Fig. 5 is a view of a modification of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the main portion of a stocking form consisting of the leg section 2 and the heel section 3. In the present instance, this. form is made of thin metal and is solid, although, in some instances, it may be made hollow, or it may be made of wood, or other suitable material.
4 designates a fiat toe section, detachably secured to the body 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The body portion 1 has a tongue 5, which extends into a recess 6 in the inner end of the toe section. Secured to each side of the body section, at the tongue, are thin plates 7, which are attached thereto by rivets, Or other means.
The inner edge of the toe section is notched at 8 to prevent suction retaining the parts when they are assembled.
In order to lock the toe section to the body 50 section 1, a latch 9 is pivoted at 10 to the plates 7. The tongue is recessed at 11 to receive the latch 9. A spring 12 is located in the recess back of the latch to hold the latch yieldingly in its projected position.
One wall. of therecess 6 of the toe section a is notched at 13 to receive the latch. By referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the latch is beveled and that the walls of the notch 13 are also beveled to allow the toe section to be forced into position, the latch yielding until the parts are inposition, after which the spring forces the latch into the notch.
One or bothplates 7 are slotted at 14 in The plates 7 are thin and are beveled at the edges, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so as not to interfere with the mounting of the stocking on the form, or with its removal therefrom.
By this means, a single body form 1 can be used, in combination with a number of toe sections, diliering in size. The toe sections can also be used on body sections of different sizes. I
In Fig. 5, a modification is illustrated in which the body portion 1 is recessed at 6 to receive a tongue 5 on the toe section 46. The plates 7 are secured to the toe section and overlap the body section and the latch 9 is carried by the toe section, but it may be on the body section, if desired.
We claim:
1. The combination in a stockingform, of
a body section having a leg and a heel portion and terminating beyond the heel; a toe section, the inner end of which abuts the outer end of the'body section; a tongue on one of said sections, the other section having a recess corresponding in width to the tongue, one wall of the recess having a notch; and a latch on the tongue engaging the notch in the walls of the recess.
2. The combination in a stocking form, of a fiat body portion; a flat toe section, the inner end of the toe section abutting the outer end of the body ection, one of said parts having a recess and the other part having a tongue; side plates secured to the section having the tongue; and a latch on the tongue arranged to engage'the recessed section.
3. The combination of a stocking form, of a fiat body portion having a tongue; side plates on the body portion of a greater width ranged to be secured to the body portion, the toe section having at its inner end a recess to receive the tongue; and a spring-latch mounted in a cavity in one edge of the tongue, one Wall of the recess in the toe section being notched to receive the latch.
4E. The combination in a stocking form, of a body portion having a tongue and side plates overlapping the tongue; a toe section recessed to receive the tongue and shaped to fit between the side plates and a spring latch in the tongue pivoted to the side plates, the latch being beveled to allow the toe section to be forced into position on the body section, one of said side plates having an opening through which the latch is actuated to release the toe section.
5. The combination of a body portion having a heel and terminating beyond the heel; a toe section, the inner end of Which abuts the outer end of the body portion; a tongue on the body portion; side plates secured to said tongue, said plates being of greater Width than the tongue, the toe section having a recess shaped to receive the tongue, the side plates extending over the Walls of the recess, said toe section being notched at its inner edge to prevent suction retaining the'parts When they are assembled, so as to allow for the ready removal of the toe section; and a latch on one section arranged to extend into a notch in the other section, said latch being enclosed by the side plates.
