nxNsINe AND Darme MACHINE.
applicati@ mea April 2v, i925. serial mi. 26,066.
To all whom it may concm:
4Be it hereby known that I, WILLIAM E. PiNcKNnY, a citizen of' he United States, anil a resident of Portland,in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Rinsing and Drying Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention rinsing and drying of clothes for laundering of centrifug l rinsing water to .the clothes.
The first object of this invention is to provide an exceedingly simple and eiiic'ient means for rinsing clothes by forcing out the soap water therefrom by means of a rotat in spray. Y
he second object is to provide a reversible cover member having a filler cap provided thereon by means of which water can v y.be admitted throu h a hose, or, whenl removedthe neck,fw
as a discharge tip for a funnel consisting of the cover itself, 1n which form the device is employed .where a'hbse or special filling able.
These, and other objects, willbecome more apparent from the specification following as il which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the device of which Figure 2 is a plan with the cover removed. Figlure .3 is a fragmentary vertical section of t e upper portion of the device showing the cover withthe filler cap up rmost. x i -l imilar numbers of reference refer tothe same' arts throu hout the views. A Re erring in detail to the drawing,V the device consists of a square container com'- prising the sideslO and bottom 11, 'which container is supported on the Tupright legs l2 which lare joined togeth by the cross ties ,shaft 20, which journals in the beari'n is driven'. from below by'means of the eli- I cal gears 21 .and 22,` orin any other convenient manner.'-
. On the tapered upper end 23 of the shaft lrelates generally tdtheand particularly to a special form al device and means for sup:
ich ordinarily holds the,
faucet isnot availustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
is perforated on .its outer side with the holes 27, whi h is also the case with the bottom of the bas et 24. The upper edge 28 of the basket 24 is preferably iiiturned, as shown.
On the,` projecting threaded end ..26 is screwed the cylindrical 'sprinkler head 29 whose perfoiations 30' are of such numberand size as to furnish proper distribution of the water and its forcible projection against the clothes 31 in the basket. 24.
' In order to provide a means for supplying Water to the sprinkler head, with or without thepuse of a hose, a special form of cover is constructed consisting of the sloping members 32 and the vertical side walls 33. A flange 34 extends around the' middle' of the side walls 33.and forms a support for the cover in either its natural or inverted position by resting upon the members l14.
The neck 35 in the center of the. cover is provided with a filler-cap 36 through which water may be yinjected into the machine b means of a hose. The cap 36 is refera ly put in place when the mac ine isl not in operation. sition the neck 35 projects downwardly into the sprinkler head 29.
The operation of the device is as follows: When rinsingjclothes they are distributed around tlre basket and. the cover put in` place in the position shown in Figure 1, and
onl
Wlien in an inverted porinsing water is pouredl intothe sprinkler head. The basket 24, it will be un is now being rotated at a speed suiicient to expel the rinsing Water from the at the same time drive'the soapywater beclothes, and
erstood, v
fore it, this water being carried away b tity until the clothes are ready for the line.
I am aware that many gal drying machines have been constructed 'in the past; I therefore do not intend to' cover same broadly, but I do intend to cover all such forms andinodicpations thereof as fall fairly I claim: In a rinsing withiri-:th appended claims.
`'ai-id drying machine, the
forms of centrifui vno combination of a square water container h xit'fing an outlet in the bottom thereof and'liavl.l
ing anv invertible cover removably placed shaft passing upwardly through the bottom 5 of said container, said shaft having portions which extend upwardly into said container that are tapered and threaded; a perforated basket mounted on the taperedportion loil? said shaft;A a sprinkler head on the threaded end of said shaft acting as a nut to hold said basket in placepon said shaft in a manner to rotate with said basket and to discharge Water andair'tangentially againstthe clothes lying against the sides of said basket.
