Be it .known that "I, PETER J. TRACY, a citi- 'zen of the United States, andv a resident of Hartford in the county ofHa-rtfordand State of onnecticut, have invented new and Improved Door Opening and Closing Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices employed for opening and closingdouble doors, and an object of my invention, among others, is the production of a device or mechanism of this'class that shall be simple in construction, easy of operation, and little liable to get out of order or become disarranged.
One form of device embodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustratedi-n the accom-, panying drawings, in which I I Figure 1 is a top View of a set of double doors provided with my improved mecha nism, the doors beingshown .as open.

In the accompanying drawings the numerals '5 6 indicate the members of a set of double doors that are hinged in the usual manner to supports 7. Each of these doors has a jointed main .lever pivotallysecured at one end to the door, said levers each comprising sections 89 pivotally joined as at 1011, these joints being each so arranged that when the levers are fully extended their pivotswill be located slightly at one side of a line passing through the pivots 12 13, so that force applied to the doors to close them, when the levers are in this position, will be resisted by reason of the fact that such force will tend to swing the levers further in the same direction as that which took placewhen the doors were swung to their open position. The pivot 13 is a fixed pivot secured to a stationary support (not shown) and each of the sections 8 of the lever are joined by toggle levers 14L15, each of which is pivotally secured at one end to a section 8 of the main lever and at its opposite end each toggle lever is secured to the other lever.

This will break the joint 11 so that the door 6 maybe swung inwardly, and this inward movement of the door will operate the main lever connected therewith so that theseotie-n8 thereof'will move the toggle lever 15 in a manner to exert a pull upon the toggle lever M n-11d this operation will break the joint 10. As the door 6 is swung to its closed position the connections comprising the several levers will also operate to close the door 5, the levers in the closed position of the doors assuming the position shown in Figure 20f the drawings.
In accordance with'the provisions of the patent statutes I havev described the prin: ciples of operation of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative and that the invention may be carried out by other means and applied to uses otherthan those above 'set out.

A pair of doors, a jointed main lever :pivotally secured at one end to each door and at its opposite end to a fixed pivot, a pair of toggle levers each pivotally secured at one end to one of said main levers and at its opposite end to the other toggle lever, a controlling "ever pivotally attached at one end to said toggle levers, and a fixed pivotal support for the other end of said controlling lever.
4. A pair of doors, a jointed inain lever pivotally secured at one end to each door and at its opposite end to a fixed pivot, a pair of toggle levers each pivotally secured to one end to one of said main levers and at its opposite end to the other toggle lever, and a controlling lever pivotally secured at one end to the joint connecting said toggle levers and pivotally secured at its opposite end to a fixed support.
