Description

Patented Apr. 27, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRACE GUSTIN AND WILLIAM J. GUSTIN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
COMPOSITION FOR REPRODUCING DESIGNS, PRINTS, PICTURES, ETC.
Ho Drawing.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that we, GRACE GUSTIN and WILLIAM J. GUSTIN, citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of- Los Angeles, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compositions for Reproducing Designs, Prints, Pictures, Etc, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved composition for use in the reproduction of pictures, prints, etc. from one surface to another.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a composition of matter which may be efiiciently used for reproducing pictures or other matter from one surface to another, especiallv being adaptable for use in the transfer of colored pictures. so as to reproduce the same without blurring, and withan intensity of color and clean cut division between the various colors equal to if not surpassing the picture as originally presented. Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description.
The improved composition of matter preferably comprises the following ingredients and their respective proportions: Sugar pt., carbolic acid 1 ounce. turpentine pt., powdered castile soap pt., green soap (tincture) .pt., water 6 pts.
In the-above composition of matter the tincture of green soap, preferably comprises a soft green soap of the following ingredients and proportions: Linseed oil (raw) 8 oz. av potassium hydroxid (caustic potash) 2 oz. av., alcohol 6% ii. dr., water 9 fl. oz.
The above soft green soap composition is rendered fluid, to provide the tincture of soft soap, by combining green soft soap and alcohol, with preferably some oil of lavender in the following proportions:
Parts,
Green soft soap of the above formula--- 650 Oil of lavender Alcohol 330 terials. The turpentine has been found tobe useful in preventing blurring of colors. The carbolic acid has been found to intenslfy and clear the colors. The castlle soap loosens 'cheescloth or the like.
Application filed January 25, 1926. Serial No, 88,771.
the colors from the original upon which the picture or print is placed. The novel use of the tincture of soft green soap, is especially lmportant, since because of the well regulated alcoholic content thereof, in combination with the other ingredients, it has been found to be the best ingredient and solution of lngredients to produce the best harmony and beauty of color contrast in the reproduction. In fact, with the use of such, it has been found that the colors are even more beautiful when represented on fabric, than they appear on the original design. In the process of reproducting a picture or print, the chemical is well agitated, and emptied into a receptacle sufficiently large to accommodate the design which is to be reproduced. The member on which the design is placed is disposed face downwardly intothe chemical in the receptacle, and when thoroughly saturated, it is removed from the receptacle and placed face upwardly on a piece of paper, and then the surplus chemical or moisture is blotted off by means of a soft piece of The member on which the design is depicted is then placed face down on the surface upon which the then placed over the member, andvthe outeredges of the member on which the design originally appeared is then carefully stamped about the outer edges of the design, in order to fasten the member of the design to the material upon which the design is to be reproduced. Then by means of an edge of a bottle or the like, the operator rubs over the design with suflicient pressure'to force the chemical from the design and transfer it to the fabric or other material upon which the reproduction is made, and the picture or the like will be exactly reproduced.
Pictures and prints may be reproduced upon linen, cloth, silk, wool, wood, paper, or the like and the chemical is susceptible of a wide and extensive use for ornamental purposes, in connection with such trades as interior decorating, woodworking, draping, lamp shade manufacture, wall hanging manufacture, and with the fabric trade manufacturing such articles as pillows, table runners, piano scarfs, wearing apparel, shawls, etc.
Various changesin the ingredients of the improved composition of matter, such as the use of the equivalents thereof, and the rearrangement in use of the proportions thereof, as well as the application of the improved composition of matter other than herein designated, may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.
We claim:
1. A composition for use in the transfer of pictures, prints. and the like comprising sugar, carbolic acid, turpentine, and soap.
2. A composition for use in the transfer of pictures comprising a binder ingredient, carbolic acid, turpentine, and soap.
3. A composition for transferal of pictures in the relation described comprising a binder material, an ingredient to prevent blurring of colors of the picture, an ingredi ent to loosen the picture, and green soap.
4. A composition for use in the transferring of pictures, prints, and the like comprising a solution consisting of a binder ingredient, an ingredient to prevent blurring of parts of the picture or print, an ingredient to loosen the parts of the picture or print from the original member on which placed, and tincture of green soap.
5. A composition of matter for use. in transferring designs, prints, or the like comprising a binder ingredient. an ingredient to'intensify colors-of the design or print, an ingredient to prevent blurring of the colors, an ingredient to loosen the colors, and an alcoholic solution of green soap.
6. A composition of matter for use in the reproduction of pictures, designs, prints, and the like comprising sugar, carbiolic acid, turpentine, castile soap, and green soap.
7. A composition of matter for use in'th'e reproduction of pictures, designs, prints, and
the like comprising" sugar, carbolic acid, turpentine, castile soap, and green soap, all mixed in water. i
