THEGRAPHIC CO. PHOTO-H1139 H PARK ILACFHNK NITED STATES JOHN J. COBB, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENDERS FOR SLEIGHS.
S pecificaticn forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,201, dated December 29, 1874 application filed October 31, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. COBB, of the city of Grand Rapids, Kent county, Michigan, have invented. a new and useful Improvement in Wings to Fancy Cutters and Sleighs, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to produce a wing of metallic substance that may be pressed out of a single piece of metal, that shall be easily adjusted, strong, durable, light, and susceptible of a perfectfinish by paint and varnish, and that can, without great bulk, weight, or expense, be readily shipped, each piece packing to the other in such a manner that when packed the bulk is one solid package, the wing to he of such form as to admit of easy ingress to and egress from the cutter or sleigh, as shown by drawing.
In drawing, C represents runner of cutter or sleigh; B, the metallic Wing, and A A the flanges to attach the same to the runner by screws or otherwise. When the wing is made of thin material, in the outer edge of the wing may be inserted a wire for strengthening the I am aware it has been customary to extend the dash-boards of cutters outside of the runners in order to form a wing or fender. Such extension of dash-board I disclaim any desire to secure patented; but
What I claim to have invented, and desire 4 patented, is-- The metallic wing B, with flanges A A, divided near the center of wing B, and each flange bent at right angles with the convex portion of the same, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
JOHN J. COBB.
