FRED BROWN, or STURGIS, SOUTH DAKOTA.
SOAP DISPENSER.
Application filed April 9, 19535; Serial No. 21,942.
To all whom it may concern: D Be it known that I, FRED BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgis,
in the county of Meade and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap Dispensers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention has for its object to prevent the wasting of soap in shops, lavatories and other places frequented by mechanics and clerks for m shing the hands, and a further object is to prevent the unauthorized appropriation of soap by persons enjoying the privilege of the lavatory or other convenience.
In accordance with the invention, the soap in a. semi-liquid state is placed in a container which is attached to a wall or other convenient support and a plunger within the container is utilized for dispensing the.
soap, the stem of the plunger being hollow and constituting a discharge for the soap, operating means being provided to coact with the stem of the plunger to press the latter into the container and effect a positive discharge of the soap.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
\Vhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanylng drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure 1 is a side view of a soap dispenser embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical, central sectional view thereof,
Figure 3 is a detail transverse section,
Figure 4 is a detail view of the cap,
Figure 5 is a detail view of the upper portion of the container, and
Figure 6 is a detail view.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates the container which may be of any capacity. and preferred construction and is adapted to receive the soap which is in a semi-liquid state. A cap 2 has the container detachably connected thereto and any suitable fastening means may be employed for securing the parts when assembled. As shown, the container 1 is provided at its upper end with a plurality of hooks 3 and the cap 2 has lugs 4 with which the hooks 3 are adapted to coact so as to hold the container in place when properly fitted to the cap. The cap 2 has opposed flanges 5' formed therewith and the same are apertured to receive screws or other fastenings whereby the cap is at tached to a wall or other convenient support.
The plunger 6 has a snug fit within the container 1 and is attached to the lower end of a tubular stem 7. In. its simplest form, the plunger 6 consistsof a leather disk confined between metal plates which are attached to the lower end of the stem 7 in any determined way. The stem 7 is externally threaded and is of a length to pass through the cap 2 when the plunger 6 is at the. bottom of the container 1. The projecting end of the stem 7 is recurved, as indicated at 8,
and constitutes a nozzle for the discharge of the soap. A guide 9 projects from the cap 2 and engages the depending or spout portion 8 of the stem 7.
A gear wheel 10 is threaded to the stem 7 and is mounted within thecap 2 so as to rotate freely but is held against vertical movement. A complemental gear element 11 is in mesh with the gear wheel 10 and is fast to a shaft 12 which is mounted in a side of the cap 2. A handle 13 is loosely mounted upon the projecting end of the shaft 12 and is provided with a spring actuated dog 1A provided to coact with a ratchet wheel 15 fast to the shaft 12 and in this manner the handle 13 may be oscillated and through the ratchet mechanism rotates the shaft 12 and the gear wheel 10 through the instrumentality of the gear element 11. Rotation of the gear wheel 10 effects a lowering of the plunger 6, thereby compressing the soap in the container 1 and effecting a positive discharge thereof through the stem 7 and nozzle 8. It is proposed to provide filled containers 1 which may replace the empty containers which may be discarded after the contents have been used. The stem 7 and reourved portion 8 may be of any construction and it is obvious that the same may comprise a single tube or sections and fittings. The cap 2 may be cast or formed in any preferred Way and any suitable gearing may be employed to effect a positive movement of the plunger and to hold the same When advanced.
What is claimed is:
A soap dispenser comprising a container, a plunger therein, an externally threaded 10 tubular stem carrying the plunger and exelement fast to the shaft and in mesh with said gear Wheel a handle loose on the shaft,
and a ratchet mechanism between the handle and shaft.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRED BROWN.
