Description

l UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEicE.
S. G. L. MORROW, OF LINN, MISSOURI.
EXGAVATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 15,813, dated September 30, 1856.
' erence being had to the annexed drawing,
forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan and Fig. 2 is a side elevation, of the machine.
Similar characters of reference inthe several figures denote the same part of the machine.
The nature of my invention consists in construct-ing the machine with the cutter and elevator held by aelever-rnnninof across the frame, and within reach of thegdi'iver, so as to be raised and lowered at pleasure, and in combining therewith a tilting chute Linder the head of the elevator, held and operated by a lever, running to the drivers seat, said chute discharging the product of excavation into a cart behind the machine.
In the drawing A is a horizontal frame, supported on wheels l W and caster wheel C. IBetween thelongitudinal pieces a and b, and uprights c and CZ is the conveyer frame B, armed at bottom with the cutter f. This frame is held at top by the uprights c CZ and has its lower end connected with the lever Z running to the right of the drivers seat S.
Under the head of the conveyer D is the tilt-ing chute I, held by lever Z running t0 the left of the seat S.
The conveyer is moved by means of the band G connecting pulleys P, P. y
This machine is driven forward, causing the cutter to eXacava-te the ground; thc product thereof `being lifted by the buckets of the elevator is discharged into the chute I, whence it reaches the cart attached to the rear of the machine: the tilting of the chute being performed by the driver by reason of lever connection Z. With lever Z the driver regulates the depth of cutting, and lifts the cutter altogether above the surface of the earth.
The arrangement of operating levers Z Z, places the several parts of the machine more under the control of the driver, than other machines of like character.
Disclaiming the several parts separately, I claim- The arrangement as described of the cutter, elevator, and discharge chute, with the levers Z Z, regulating the same.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
S. G. L. MORROW.
