support the same in the horizontal position. There is also an indentation 41-2 inwardly of the side wall that frictionally engages the edge of the platform when it is in this horizontal position. V7 hen the platform is in the horizontal position indicated in Fig. 5, indentations l i engage the platform to secure itin this vertical position. Any suitable method of fastening the platform in these different positions will be satisfactory.
It will be seen that when the platform is supported in the horizontal position the heat radiating face of the heating element is exposed substantially flush with the edge of the open side of the container so that a cooking vessel may rest on top of the heating element or th wire cover and that when the platform is supported in the vertical position it is substantially within the contain r so that the walls of the container act as a reflector to concentrate the radiant heat from the exposed side of the heating element. In this position the wire cover serves as a protective guard. In the horizontal position the apparatus may serve as a toaster, the wire cover acting as a support for the slice of bread.
The container is, therefore, so constructed and adapted to the heating element with the iron that it serves as a portable container for the assembled iron and as a support for the heating element in any one of the above described adjusted positions so that the same may be readily employed to meet any of the demands for which the apparatus is intended to be used.
hat I claim is:
1. A container for a heating element, comprising an enclosure with at least one removable side, and a pivotally-supported platform within the enclosure for holding the element in different angular positions, in one of which positions it faces toward the movable side.
2. A container for a heating element, comprising an enclosure with ren'iovahle top and end sides, and a. pivotally-slipported platform within the enclosure for holding the element in dilierent angular positions, in one of which positions it faces toward the movable end side and in another of which positions it is held parall l to the top side.
3. A container for a heating element, coinprising an enclosure with ren'iovable top and end sides, and a pivotal]y-snpported platform within the enclosure for holding the element in different angular positions, in one of which positions it faces toward the movable end side and in another of which positions it is held just below the top of the enclosure to heat a vessel placed thereon when the top side has been removed.
4-. A container for a heating elemei'it, conev prising an enclosure with a removable top,
and a pivotedplatform witnin the enclosure which is reversible to provide a support substantially flush with the top edge of the enclosure for a cooking vessel, and with its central portion depressed to receive the heating'element and hold it below the vessel and. below the level of said top edge.
5. A container for a heating element, co1n prising an enclosure, with a supporting platform pivoted to the sides of the enclosure, and with a wire guard pivoted at one end of the platform.
6. A container for a heating element, comprising an enclosure, with a supporting platform secured to the sides of the enclosure, and with a guard pivoted at one end of theplatform to be swung across one end of the enclosure or over the top of the platform.
7. A container for a heating element, comprising a centrally pivoted platform for said element, and a guard pivoted to one end of the platform.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification.
