Be it lrnown that I, JOSEPH E. HARDY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident -of Colorado Springs, inthev county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful'improvements in Apparatus for Delivering and Applying Viater leneticially to Burning Fuel, of which the following is a specification.
My method relates to the delivery and the beneficial application of water to burning fuel. Some of my objects are to provide a method of delivering and applying water, in cont-rolled and variable quantities, to burning fuel in such a manner that, the consumption, vigor and heating power of the combustible and heat producing element-s of the fuel, water and air, such as oxygen, carbon and hydrogen, are greatly increased and a large percentage of the smoke gas and soot, incident to the burning of the fuel, is consumed and the burning period of the fuel is greatly'lengthened My apparatus relates to means for carrying out said :method and my objects are to provide an apparatus which will deliver and apply the water in a continuous or intermittent spray, spatter, drop by drop, or in one or more streams. To provide facilities whereby the water may be received from any desired source such as the city water system, or any sort of reservoir or container. To provide means to regulate the flow and discharge of the water so as to produce the above mentioned different forms of delivery. Other objects will appear as the description progresses.
Although I have shown preferred forms of my invention, I do not thereby limit myself to the precise forms shown, but wish it understood that various changes in the details of construction and adaptations thereof may be made within the scope of what hereinafter is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
My invention may be used with heating stoves, ranges, open grates, forges, furnaces, locomotives, power plants, and in all other places where fuel is burned to produce power, heat or light. It may also be used with gas or oil flames.

A secondary pipe 4, closed at both ends, is horizontally disposed at right angles to pipe Delivery tubes 5, 6, 7 and 8 are provided with control valves 9, 10, 11 and 12. Each delivery tube has a vertical portion with its lower end bent upward, and a horizontal portion. The horizontal portion is connected to the secondary pipe 4l, and the vertical portion disposed in the fire box of the stove as shown in Fig. 1.
The water is admitted through thefmain pipe 1 into the secondary pipe 4v, the fiow beingl regulated by valve 2. The water .passes from pipe 4 through the delivery tubes 5, 6, 7 and S and is discharged upward from the bent portions, the rate of discharge being regulated by control valves 9, 10, 11 and 12. f
The water is preferably admitted slowly.
lAfter the water reaches the curved kportions it remains there until the heat from the hre causes it to discharge upwardin a spatter.

`When the water is admitted rapidly it is discharged in a stream the heat not having time to cause a spatter or spray. Any intermediate rate of discharge from a drop at a time to a stream may be secured by adjusting valve 2 or control valves 9, 10, 11 and 12. The hotter the fire the more rapidly the water may be admitted.
My method and apparatus herein described and for the purposes set forth, are improvements on any and all other methods and appliances of this class heretofore patented or unpatented, either obsolete or in use, because they are new, more eilicient and more readily adapted to existing conditions.
I claim:
1. An apparatus of the class described in combination with a stove, said apparatus comprising a horizontally disposed main pipe adapted to be connected to a water supply; a secondary pipe, closed at both ends, ,Y
horizontally disposed at right angles to said main pipe and connected thereto; a plurality of delivery tubes, each tube having a vertical portion with its lower end bent upward,
and a horizontal portion, the horizontal portion being connected to said secondary pipe and the vertical portion disposed in the fire box of said stove so that Water may be de livered to burning fuel in said fire boX.
2. An apparatus of the class described in combination with a stove, said apparatus` comprisinga horizontally disposed main pipe adapted to be connected to a Water supply at its tree end; a secondary pipe, closed at both ends, horizontally disposed at right angles to said main pipe and connected thereto; a plurality of delivery tubes, each tube having a vertical portion with its lower end bent upward, and a horizontal portion, the horizontal portion being provided with a control Valve and connected to said sec ondary pipe, and the'vertieal portion, dieposed the fire box of said stove so that Water ina i be delivered to burnin" fuel in 20 .YY n
