The side portions of the tension member l extend tangent to the curve at its central portion and at their' upper ends are extended horizontally in contactv'ith the compression member 2, and at which point they are bolted to the ournal box in the usual standard Way. The column hase, preferably, has a lugl or pin 15 which enters a corresponding aperture torined in the center part of the tension meu'iber 8. The clips or plates 12 have outwardly projecting lugs v15 to which are connected, as by the rivets illustrated, the tie bars 11, which, at. their other ends, are connected tothebottoms ot the journal bof-ies in the usual standard `Way.
The channel member 8 supports the spring 1 6, illustrated as tour in number, on ivhich springs is supported the bearing or cap plate 17.' The bearing pla-te -is formed with a: .plurality of transverse grooves in this upper surface in. which are disposed the anti-friction rollers 18 which carry the end vbodiment of the invention illustrated of the truck bolster 19, Which end is also lprovided with suitable grooves on its lower surface contacting said rollers. Thebearing plate 1T' has laterally extending side portions or flanges 20 extending at each side of the bolster columns l. and .there `is disposed between said plate and Aeach ot said columns a Wear plate L1, rllhe .Wear rplate 21 has outwardly extending langes or is of channel shape so asto embrace the sides of theV columns t and .said plate is constructedfor vertical movement. inthe emvthe said plate f2.1 has inwardlyprojecti .lugs 22 which may conveniently be struck up therefrom and Which extend above andbelow the bearing plate 17, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The Wear plates 21 thus move vertically with the hearing plate 17 and Contact the bolster columns 4;. Said bolster 19 has stop lugs 1S)n on its outer end adapted to engage Wear plates 21 to limit endivise move ment of said bolster'.
In assembling the truck, one of the Wearing plates 21 is placed against one column at the lowest point thereon While` the other Wearing plate is placed against the other column in the highest position with thevtruclt holsters in place. T beinserted between the columns on an angle oit-about .475 when the lower ive ringplate can be moved into position between the bolster and column, after which the springs .are placed under the bearing plates 1T on the channel 8, Y
By the described construction, a very rigid and rugged column structure is provided to Inhichthe tension .member is easily secured. The tension member has onlytlie one curved bend at its central portion instead of the l .usual Millat central portion .ivitl-rtivo 'bends and the stress isi'lseat metralla dispose-.fl said.
he roller seat can now yvcolumns v.tangent to and in eontac tension member by the .curved surface on the column base. It will be noted that the tension member 3 is secured to the base G .bymeans which do not pierce the tension member but are disposed Wholly at the outside thereof. By thus having no fastening means passing through the tension member the same is kept of unbroken cross section and is not weakened. t Will also be noted Vthat the rigid and integral structure of the columns, the connecting member at the top thereof and the base 6, torni an exceedingly rigid structure oi side vtrame and prevent any lateral movement ot the column structure on the tension men'iber. Giving to the convex loiver surface or the base G and the rigid column structure, the latter cannot move longitudinally along` the tension member. There is, therefore, an intimate cooperation between the rigid integral column structure and the curved tension member.V
By the provision of thevvearing plate 21 embracing the bolster column, a large Wearing .surface isobtained. The bolster bearing plate is still guided on the bolster column and the increased Wearing surface between the bolsterv and columns will greatly prolong the life of both. The Wear `does not come directly on the bolster and if the plate 21 becomes greatly Worn,` a new plate can be substituted therefor with small expense.
From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided avery simple and improved st ructure ,of c 'ar truck. lt Will, of course, be understood, that various changes may be made in the form, details and arrangement ofthepa-rts yWithout de` parting. from the scope of' applicavnts .iniven` tion, which, generally stated, consists in a device capablerot carrying out the iobjects labove stated, such :as show-n and described and set forth inthe appended claims.
