An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature havinga simple and eiiioientconstruction, one which is'reliable in operation, inexpensiveto construct, and well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed. n
lVithv the above and numerous other objects` in view which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the combination and'arrangement of parts and in the novel features of construction as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed;

Referring to the drawingrin detail it will be seen that 1 designates the casing generally which includes the gasometer 2 and the generator compartment 3. The generator a is disposed in the generator compartment 3. The gasometer 1 consists of a compartment in which is disposed the bell 5 from which projects an arm 6. A pipe 7 connects the upper portion of the generator vcompartment 3 with the lower portion of the gasometer 2 and ay valve 8 is provided 1n the bottom end ofthis pipe for draining water therefrom. A pipe 9 disposed interiorly of the gasometer and communicates with the pipe 7. A pipe 10 is disposed interiorly of the gasometer and communicates with the system line 11. A drain valve 12 is disposed at the bottom end of the pipe 10. Thus the gas generated in the generator compartment Savill befed through the pipe 7 'and collected in the gasometer through the pipe 9 and will be fed from the gasometer through the pipe 10 to the system 11.k A valve LlO'is located in pipe 7 to' be closed when carbide is put in the generator. The generator indicated generally at 4 includes af casing` 1&3, the bottoni end of which tapered Vas at 1l terminating in the opening 15. A conicalshaped member .16 is positioned m'iniediately above 'the opening 15 being held in place )y the pms `17 or in any other suitable manner. A-tube 18 communi- Cates with this conical-shaped member 1G and passes vertically and centrallyr through the casing A shaft 19vis rotatable through the tube 18 and extends through the open` ing 15 terminating aVv distance thorebelow and having mounted Vat its lower end a dish 20. At the upper end of the shaft 1S) which projects above the generator compartment 3 there is disposed a gear 22 which meshes' with a spring-actuated gear 23, the spring' of whichmay be wound up by a key- 24. A gear 25 meshes with gear`22 and a gear 26 meshes with gear 25. A braking mechanism including a stem 27 cooperates` with the gear 26 for holding the actuating mechanism of the shaft 19 in a stopped position; On the stem 27 is provided an engaging member of shoe 28 which is normally held in engagement with the gear`26 by a spring 29. As the bell 5 moves downwardly it will be seen that theV arm 6 will engage the top of the stem 27 thus disengaging the shoe 2S from the gear 26 so that the gears 23, 22,
25 and 26V will be free to rotate thereby causing rotation of the shaft 19.
Now the casing 13 is filled with carbide Awater contained in the chamber 3 but upon rotation of the disk 20 by the shaft 19 and its actuating mechanism it will be seen that the crystalswill be thrown from the disk into the water. The water line of the co1n partment 3 is indicated at 33. Vater is also provided in the gasometer 2, the water line being shown at approximately 34 so as to seal the gas in the upper portion of the bell 5.
A tube 35 extends downwardly into the compartment 3 along side of the generator in order that crystals may be inserted-therein which would be too large to go through the generator casing 13 that is which would not pass between the lower edge ol the coneshaped member 16 and the inner surface ot the cone-shaped extension 14 and Which would not pass through `the opening;r l5. This is used more for emergency purposes or in starting the generation of the gas. rlhe upper end oit this tube is closed by a removable cap 36. A cap 87 is provided in the upper end oit the compartment- 3 in order that water may be inserted therein. Another cap 3S is provided adjacent the bottom ot the compartment 3 in order that suitj able means may be inserte( therein for removing` the carbide precipitate.
