Description

- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
CHARLES G. ROEBLING, OF TRENTON, JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO W. A. ROEBLING, F. W. ROEBLING, AND C. G. ROEBLING.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-RQPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,931, dated December 22, 1874; application filed November 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES GJROEBLING, of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Taper -Wire-Rope, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to form a taper Wire-rope-that is to say, a Wire-rope that shall be tapering in form from one end or extremity to the other, to be used for hoisting and other purposes, and cases Where the length and Weight of the rope become an important item in estimating its Working capacity.
My taper wire-rope is composed of six (6) or any number of strands or ropes, laid spirally around a center strand or rope, and each strand or rope composed of nineteen (19) or any number of Wires, said number of Wires being the same at any s/ection of the rope, as represented in Figures 2 and of the accompanying drawing, each Wire being continuons and taperng'from one end of the rope to the other. Fig.2of the drawing represents acrosssection of my improved taper Wire-rope at its larger end. Fig. 8 represents a cross-section of the same rope at its smaller end, the number of wires in each being the same. Fig. l is a general view of my improved rope, showing its tapering form from a to b.
I claim as my invention- As an article of manufacture, a tapering Wire-rope, whose cross-sections, taken at any points of its length, shall each have the same number of Wires, said Wires being individually of a tapering form, and continuous throughout the whole length of the rope.
CHARLES G. ROEBLING.
