To all whom it may concern.

- Be it known that I, ROBERT PARKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mc- Donald, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a l ape1- -l-la11gi1ig Device, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved device to'be used by paper hangers, and other Jersons for affixin wall pacer to a wall.

The invention has more particular reference to a portable contrivance including a part on which the strip of paper is laid in a folded state, together with a guide and pressure roller over which the paper passes to permit the pasted side to be pressed against the wall to adhere thereto.

The particular details and their relative association will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawing.

In the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is an end view of a paper hanger device constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a side view of the same showing the approximate manner in which the wall paper is associated therewith while being applied.

Figure 3 is a top plan view with a por tion of the pressure roller broken away to disclose the construction more plainly.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 1 designates a handle composed of separable and adjustable sections 2 and 3, coupled or otherwise connected together at l. At the upper end of the upper handle section 2 is a substantially rectangular frame 5. This frame is connected to the handle by the downwardly converging arms or portions 6, and the central socket 7. A roller 8 of rubber or other comparatively soft material is journaled for rotation on the upper horizontal bar of the frame 5.

preferably made up of a plurality of slats connected together in the approximate order shownin Figure 3. This shelf is provided with bearing brackets 11 which are journaled for rotation on the lower horizontal bar of the aforesaid frame 5. The shelf is equipped with the pivoted arcuate arm 12, the free end portion of which extends through the bracket 9 and is held in various adjusted positions by the set screw carried by this bracket. Adjustably mounted on the shelf 10 is a slidably mounted bar 12 which is equipped with a plurality of fingers or hooks l8.

In using the improved device, a strip of paper of the desired length is cut-and the paste applied thereto in the customary way.

Then the paper is folded somewhat in the manner indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2, after which it is laid upon the upper side of the shelf 10. The shelf is then in substantially the horizontal position shown, being held in this position by the retainer arm 12 and the bracket 9. The slide 12 is adjusted according to the width of the paper to facilitate unfolding. The free end portion of the paper is then passed over the pressure roller 8, and is attached to the side wall and ceiling in one corner in a customary manner. After the paper is started, it is obvious that by taking hold of the handle and walking across the room, the strip of paper may be pressed against the ceiling by holding the roller up and against I the paper. As the paper is thus rolled on, it is also unfolded from the shelf, and when the opposite side of the room is reached, the shelf maybe let down to assume a perpendicular position. In this way, the shelf will not interfere with the complete application of the strip of paper from one side wall to the opposite wall. The handle may be made extensible so that the paper may be applied by walking across the floor, or it may be of any length so that in case as 'alfold is provided, the device may be conveniently used. It is obvious that the device is not restricted to ap plying ceiling paper only, but may be used equally well on applying side wall paper.

The features and advantages of the device of this class are doubtless clear. Moreover, the construction will be understood from a careful reading of the description in con nection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is deemed unneces sary.

\Vhile the preferred einlmdinient of the invention has been shown and deserilied, it is to he understood that minor changes coming within the tield of invention claimed may he resorted to if desired.
