Be it known-that I, FRED C. vLaotian-xiv, a citizen of the United States, residing at Asheville, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar-Sorting Racks, of which the following is a specification. o
This invention relates to racks, and has for its object the provision of a'novel rack device designed primarily for use in laundries for the purpose of facilitating the sorting of soft collars according to the laundry marks thereon.
It is well known that the method ordinarily used for assorting soft collars, after they have been laundered, is to spread them all over atable and pick out those having a corresponding mark, an operation which requires a large number of unnecessary steps and long reaching from place to place about the top of the table or other support. Furthermore, it frequently occurs that mistakes are made in view of the fact that a collar may slip over and become mixed with others in an adjacent pile.
It is with the above facts in view that I have designed the present rack which is adapted to be supported upon a table, the floor or other place and which includes a plurality of rack elements or sections upon which quite a large number of soft collars may be laid subsequent to laundering one of the rack elements or supporting members being used for each different laundry mark, the intention being that a single operator mayset up a plurality of the rack devices in more or less circular arrangement about him and consequently effect sorting of the collars in a very easy and simple manner and with less likelihood of mistakes than is possible under the ordinary system.
An important object is the provision of a rack device which is adapted to be folded or collapsed whereby to facilitate storage within a small space when use is not desired.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, positive in action, eflicient and durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illusings, I have shown my device as comprising an elongated support 10 which might be a board or which may be constructed of any suitable material and which is of any desired size and shape. However, this support is here represented as being of rectangular shape and designed to be mounted in substantially upright position. Hinged at 1.1 upon the rear face of this support 10 is a brace or leg 12 which is designed to engage upon the floor, ground or other surface whereby to hold the support 10 in an upwardly and rearwardly inclined position as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
Mounted upon the support 10 are rack ele ments or members designated broadly by the numeral 13, and each of these members includes a pair of horizontally alined arms 14 terminating in or provided with attaching portions 15 which are screwed or otherwise suitably secured to the support 10. Each of the arms 14 is of substantially hook shape and includes an upwardly extending forward portion 16 which has its end coiled or bent back upon itself as shown at 17 to avoid leaving any sharp corners or edges which might cause injury to a collar engaged thereon. The main portions 18 of the bracket members 14 are preferably connected by a metallic or other plate 19 which bridges the two supporting members 1a in each pair and which has its ends formed with terminal lugs or tongues 20 coiled about the arms 18 of the bracket for effecting securing.
In the use ofthe device, it is intended that it be set up as shown in Figure 2 and that one of thebracket members 13 be assigned to each laundry mark. After the collars have been laundered and sorting thereof is desired, it is readily apparent that the operator may glance at the collar and ascertain what the laundry mark is, after which the collar is placed upon the proper rack member 13. These rack members are, in actual practice, formed sufficiently large to hold approximately ten collars as this is about the maximum number ordinarily sent in by a single individual. However, in case of a particularly large number it is obvious that any desired number of the racks may ue assigned for one laundry mark.
From the foregoing" description and a study of the drawings, it will be apparent that I have thus provided a Yer) simply const-ructed and inexpensivedevice for the purpose specified which will greatly facilitate the sorting of coliars in laundries or other places, the device saving a great deal of time, laborflind annoyance inasmuch as'the York is tacilitated in ei'ery respect.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it should he understood that I reservethe right to make such changes in the fOllflfCOllStlUC- tion and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the suhjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, I
FRED C. LACKMA Y.
