WALTER pgwm agbrwsama, oamronnmi f i srann.
J Visalia, in the county ofTulare andStateof contemplates: the provision of a 'meansfruit is gathered;
California, have inventeclycertain new and useful. Improvements in aStand,,of'- which the following is al specifications.
This invention: relates to' new. and useful improvements to the-class of stands which are; used in; connectionz vwith-f the% supporting of cottonboxes or crates and haskfor lts principah object to priov ide a; stand which will hold a packingzbox inzvariouspositions incident' to the 'paokingofwthe same, means being furtherprovided for;,weighi11g-.;tl1e contents-of the packedi box. I
Heretoforeinl ther packing of fruit, the fruit was first gatherediand thQnztTdDSPOI'iJGCl to a packing house wherexit was packed: and weighed and the box finally closed' and placed in condition for shipment. This necessitated the loss of considerable time and labor and therefore the 'present"invention wherebythe-fruit may "be packed; weighed and the box closed: at :thewplace' where the A furtherfobject of. the inventionz i's. 1to provide a stand? of the above: mentioned character, which: is simple; in construction, inexpensive, strong and durableband furs: thermore adapted for" the purposes for vwhich it is designated;
Other objectsand advantages of this in vention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 1s a. side elevation of my 1mproved stand,
7 Figure 2 1s a vertical sectional view thereof,
Figure 3 is a vention, and a Figure 4: is a perspective view of .the improved stand.
front elevation of the in In the drawing wherein for the purposeof illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved packing stand and the same comprises a pair of spaced vertical standards '2 and 3 respec-' tively. As the standards are each of the same construction, the description of one '13, 7 92 Se i 5 Extending between the forward-g arms of i the inverted U -shaped member-ofthe-standards'2 and' 3, at a pointadjacentthenbracing'; member 4 is ahorizontal cross:v bare, A. similar horizontal; cr-ossw-vbarr9 extends between the bracing member l -at aapointq adjacent-the rearwardly disposedarms of; the "standardsvt and the lJar-EQJiS adapted to cooperate with the-horizontalbar 8 in the manner hereinafter to ;beiiinore fully described; w s An; additional'bar: 10 extends between the standard'siandi has its. free ends disposed up wardly.'asilli strated'at 11 and secured tovthe brace men1bers;. t;ata pointinwardly from the honizontalccrosshams; the banaldbeing ,1; clisposedbelow the-barrS inwthe manner 'clearly illustrated ;in Fignresfli and 1E; of" the drawings. Adapted for cooperation, with 9 of the inverted U-shaped members comprising thestandards 2 and?) respectively and the last mentioned bar is arranged above the bar 9 and it is also more clearly illustrated in Figure 2. i
An arcuatemember of tubular material and designated by the numeral 13 has its free end secured to the crown portion of the standard adjacent the rear portion of the stand and the arcuate member 13' provides a means for carrying a weighing scale designated generally by the numeral 14 which may be of any well known construction, and to which is connected the chains 15 on the free ends of which are arranged the article engaging and supporting hooks 16.
The braces and the several bars are formed substantially of the same material as that used in the construction oft-he standards, although it is to be understood that any other material maybe substituted therefor.
In use, the
a box such as is shown at A is placedon the 7 stand in such a manner as to have 13116331110 supported at an incline thereby causing the box to. rest on the bars 8, 10' and 12 respec,
tively. The horizontal cross bar 8 will engage the forward end. of the box andpr w vide a stop thereior whereby the box-will.
beheld inposition on the standl to facilitate the packing of the fruit which has been 7 .gathere d'thereini; -Afterthe box has been filled with the fruit-,the same is removed from the bars 8,
lOand 12 and placed across the bars 8 and 9 'whereby the box is supported in a substantially horizontalposition and the rear end abuts'bar 12. This-construction is'shown I more clearly in the dotted lines'in Figure I.
The weighingoi the contents of the box is accomplished byplacing the hooks l6 on the free ends of the chains 15 underneath the cleatsor strips B which extend transversely across-"the end-s of the box" in the manner as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing 7 and the box and the'contents thereof will be free of the stand and: the exact weight of the box and 'the contents" thereof may be readily ascertained by reading the scale 14.
"1t is of courseunderstood that theweight of the box in which the fruitis packed is initiallyascertained so that the net weight of the fruit may be readily known.
After the box and the fruit whichhas been packed therein has been weighed, the
same is again placed on the horizontal bars 8 and 9 and a top is placed overthe box and nailed theretointhe'usual manner.- A receptacle-such as'is shown at 1'7 is arranged on; the stand for receiving thesupply of g 7 stand ,1 is placed position at the 'placewhere theiruitis gathered and ravaaea nails which are used in fastening the top to I It will thus be' seen from the foregoing description, that a stand has been provided which is especially adaptedfor use in cong nection with the packing and weighing oi. fruit, althought the same may be used for other pnrposes,'the simplicity of my improved stand enabllngaperson to save conweighing boxes Offluit.
While I haveshown the preferred embodiment of my invention, itis to be understood that various changes in the size shape siderable time and; labor in packing'jand and arrange'mentof parts may )be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and thescope-of the appended claim. V
. Having thus described the invention, what Iclann 1s A standlfor supporting a box in an in- .70 tween the standards adjacent theiront the'reof, to the rear of the front horizontal cross bar, and-below the horizontal plane 'ofsaid fronthorizontal cross bar, and adapted to be 'abutted by the front portion of the bottom of the box, and a third horizontalcross bar disposed between the rear portions of the standards above the horizontal plane. of
the front horizontal cross barand to the rear of the second horizontal bar for the purpose of supporting therearportion of the-bot tom-of said box.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. WALTER D WI N TON.
