ANIDIAL-INTETINE CLEANER.
Application filed May 22, 1925. Serial No. 32,292.
To all whom it 122 (14 concern Be it known that we, HERMAN); Nlisnnn and Hanan-mar Nlioetn, citizens of Germany, residing at Stuttgart, lVurttemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal-Intestine Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for use in cleaning animal intestines and has for its object to provide an improved con struction of apparatus whereby the intestine may be drawn through the machine and more readily and rapidly subjected to an effective treatment.
The constructive features of intestine cleaning machines as heretofore proposed show several yielding and automatically regulated devices for the purpose of encountering the intestine by the movability of the bearing or bearings of an acting tool in a yielding manner. 7
A yielding movable treatment of the in testine in the cleaning position in the known intestine cleaning machines, in which the rotatable axis of an acting tool is rigidly supported in a bearing and in which an anvil or table rigidly connected with this bearing is applied in such manner as to cooperate with the working tool, and may be obtained in a manner similar to the above by means of brushes, linen, rubber strips, flexible yielding scrapers, etc., provided as an overlay or cover or the like on the acting tool.
The mechanical cleaning of the intestine has also been proposed in such manner that the alternating pressure which the different strengths of the intestine and the other prevailing regularities exert on the working parts in the cleaning position in the known type of intestine cleaning machine, is compensated by variable and yielding working of this or of one of these parts during operation. v
The cleaning of the intestine by the present apparatus iseffected in such manner that the unyielding space in which working is effected on the intestine by the working tool or tools and the anvil or table during the cleaning operation remains fixed and constant.
The essential feature for the cleaning of the intestine by this rigid system of treatment is obtained in such manner that the form and action of the present working tools rotating in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the intestine render possible a drawing or pulling of the intestine through the cleaning position of the apparatus by the adjustment of the dis tance between the working surface, that is to say, the anvil or table and the working surface of the tools, such distance corresponding to the distance of both walls, of a cleaned intestine. Engagement of the intestine with edged bodies or tools is thus avoided. The treatment of the intestine is effected solely by the action of surfaces thereon.
Two rotatable movements in directions opposite to each other of the working tool in their application to the intestine are obtained by the bearing arrangement according to the present invention and with the working tools provided as rotatable bodies mounted in a rotatable member, such tools being provided in the form of rollers supported on a disc common to all of the tools and rotatable in adirection opposite to the direction of movement of the intestine, the said working tools on application to the intestine turning simultaneously in the direction'of travel of the intestine. This arrangement permits of the working surfaces of the working tools acting as working surfaces so that the said tools exert a rolling frictional action on the intestine and draw the same through the cleaning position of the apparatus.
The arrangement is such that the working tools are applied one after another on the intestine so as to exert a beating, knead-- ing and squeezing action on the intestine as well as a vibrational movement which removes the mucus and fibrous material from the intestine.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood reference is made to the accompanying drawings which show diagrammatically and by way of example a constructional form of apparatus in accordance with the present invention.

The method of working; the apparatus is as follows- The raw intestine g is introduced from the rear side of the machine between the working members or tools a supported by the main bearing 0 and the anvil or table 7" and after the end or" the intestine has been fixed on the reel it the said intestine is drawn through the cleaning space C of the machine. The hand wheel Z then manipulated and the working tools or members a rotate in a direction contrary to the direction of movement of the intestine g. The distance B of the working surfaces E and D existin between the anvil or table f and the working member orbody (z in the cleaning position C is guaranteed by the adjustment of this distance to the distance necessitated by the two walls of a cleaned intestine so as to permit of the tree passage ot such intestine through the said space. Such distance, however, may be adjustable to suit different thicknesses of intestines. ()wing to the absolute resistance ot' the working surfaces D and E which underlie the position A displaced from the middle point of the rotatable axis Z) 01' the working tools 0 to its working surface D and also to its continuation B up to the working surface E of the anvil or table 7 which shows the shortest distance of the working surfaces D and E from one another in the clean ing position C during the process of cleaning, no alterations in length are therefore required and consequently a definite working space is established in the apparatus.
It will thus be seen that cleaningo'i an intestine is effected in ace rdance with the present invention by a plurality of working members or tools 0 supported in a. rotatable disc (4 common to all of the working members e which exert on the intestine a beating, squeezing and kneading action.

An apparatus for cleaning animal intestines comprising a-table, a. fixed axle, cleaning tools rotatable around the axle, the shortest distance between the tools and the table during rotation of the tools being equal to a double thickness oi intestine and means for drawing an intestine to be cleaned through the space between the tools and the table in direction opposite to that of the rotation of the tools.

An apparatus for cleaning animal intestines comprising, a table, a fixed axle, cleaning tools rotatable around the axle, the shortest distance between the tools and the table during rotation of the tools being equal to a double thickness of intestine and means for drawing an intestine to be cleaned through the space between the tools and the table in a direction opposite to that of the rotation ot the tools, a carrier fixed to said axle, said cleaning tools each being a smooth surface roller rotatably mounted on the carrier.
3. An apparatus for cleaning animal intestines comprising, a table, a fixed axle, cleaning tools rotatable around the axle, the shortest distance between the tools and. the table during rotation of the tools being equal to a double thickness of intestine and means tor drawing an intestine to be cleaned through the space between the tools and the table in a direction opposite to that ot the rotation of the tools, the cleaning tools being compulsor rotated.
