of New York, have invented a new and Improved Screen, of which the following is a full. clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to screens and more particularly to window screens of the adjustable type which may beextended so' as to fit any ordinary window frame and held in position between the beads of the window frame by the window sash resting on the screen.

An object of the invention is to provide a screen of this character in which two movable frames are pro ided slidably connected by bendable coupling devices which enable the frames to be disconnected to allow new netting or screening to be inserted in the frames or for any other reasondesired.

A further object is to provide a screen of this character having a curtain or shade which is movable across the screen and guided by elastic tapes so that the curtain or shade may entirely cover the netting of the screen or partially cover the same, as may be desired.

A further object is to provide'a device of this character which functionsnot only as a screen but also as a ventilator, which enables the window to be left open even in stormy weather.

A further object is to provide a screen of this character which will be neat and attrac tive in appearance and which will be strong and durable in use.

Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. v

My improved screen comprises two frames 1 and 2, both of which may be of wood or any other suitable material. Each frame is of general rectangular form andboth of the same height or v e tical dimension and 2 1s provldedwith ich frame 1- are secured to each frame and projected through the slits 7. The strips 8 of each frame are proyected through the slits 7 of the other frame and then bent downwardly against the frame, forming holding tongues 9 which hold the frames together and allow them a sliding movement relative to each other but they can be bent at right angles to allow the frames to be separated when it is desired to insert new netting into the frames. Theseslits 7 are very narrow and also the metal strips 8 are correspondingly narrow so that there is not suliicient space or opening for mosquitos or the like to pass through the slits.

Each frame 1 and 2 is preferably strengthened at the corners by angle brackets 10, and

' elastic tapes 11 are loc ted at the. upper and lower portions ofthe screen, and secured at 3 ported in suitable brackets l t on frame 1 adjacent the end of the latter. The shade 12 is provided with guide loops 1% receiving the strips 11 so that the shade can be drawn oii' the roller or allowed to wind thereon and be guided in its movement always by the strips 11. The shade is also provided with a hook 15 to engage in an eye or hook 16 on frame 2 to hold the shade fully extended covering the netting of the screen.

It will thus be noted that if the well known type of ratchet spring roll is provided, the shade can be drawn from the roll as far as desired or can be completely extended at the will of the operator.

Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described Without departing from the invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A screen of the character described, comprising two screen members movable relatively to each other, elastic tapes connecting the respective members and located adjacent the'upper and lower edges ofthe screen, a spring roller adjacent one end of one memher, a curtain Wound on said roller, and guides on the shade movable on the tapes.

2. A screen of the character described, comprising two screen members movable relatively to each other, elastic tapes connecting the respective members and located adacent the upper and lower edgesof the screen, a spring roller adjacent one end of one member, a curtain Wound on said roller,

guides on the shade movable on the tapes, a

hook on the free end of the shade, and a member on the screen frame adapted to hold the shade fully extended.
