IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157.769, dated December 15, 1874; application filed June 27, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEXOR B. Snow, of Cleveland, Ohio, have invented a Neck-Tie Holder, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to hold a neck-tie in its place without passing it around the neck, and Without the use of elastic cord, rubber, or other device. It consists of a light frame or spring, made from a single piece of wire, curved to the shape shown in Figure l of the accompanying drawing. The wire is V coiled once around atAand B, and the two ends are joined together at 0; this secures proper shape and the requisite elasticity. The tie which may be a ribbon, a small piece of silk or other fabric-is fastened to the upper part of the frame, either thrown loosely across, to be adjusted after the frame is in place, or arranged as it is to be worn. The upper part of the frame is then placed under the collar, and the lower part, at D, raised and placed over the collarbutton. The position of the frame and method of adjustment under the collar are shown in Fig. 2. The slight compression causes the frame to conform to the shape of the collar and holds it firmly in place. The frame, with the tie adjusted ready to be placed under the collar, is shown in Fig. 3. This is a back view, and shows the manner of raising the frame without disarranging the tie.

This description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, will enable any one skilled in such matters to construct and operate this simple but useful device.

I believe that my invention differs from and .is superior to others in the following points:

It affords a secure frame on which the tie may be fastened in any desired style without the trouble of passing it around the neck, under the collar, and without the resulting injury to the fabric; it has no rubber or elastic cord fasteners, which are frail and liable to break the metallic spring adjusts itself accurately to the shape of the collar and holds the tie securely in its place, never becoming disarranged or loose; it gives opportunity for continual change to suit the taste of the wearer, while ordinary bows or ties cannot be changed in form, and when soiled are useless; it is durable, and will enable its possessor to economize in his expenditures for neck-wear.

I am aware that scarf-supporters having a button-socket and elastic arms have been heretofore used; but, owing to the fact that all parts of the same have not been connected together, they are easily bent out of place. The object of my invention is to remedy this difficulty.

I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The scarfsupporter composed of elastic wire having the two ends thereof joined, as at c, and provided with the coiled springs A and B, and the depression D, constructed and arranged as and for the purposes described.
