KEY HOLDER.
Application filed December To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. FALLOWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to holders for keys adapted for use in case or backing of flexible material adapted for pocket use.
The essential objects of my invention are to afford universal action of the snap hooks or movement of the latter in any desired direction; to secure such action with a minimum of friction; to insure that the action of each hook be wholly independent and distinct from the action of any other hook or supporting part; and to attain these ends in a strong and inexpensive structure.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification v Figure 1 is a front elevation of my holder embodied in a key case,
Figure 2, an end elevation of the holder,
Figure 3, a partial fragmentary section on line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4, a detail view of one of the suspension units.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In the drawings 4 is an enclosing case of flexible material comprising a body portion 5, flaps 6, and the usual fastening members 7. It is in conjunction with the above or other suitable case of this type that my holder is intended to be applied.
The holder includes a base or attaching plate 10 of pliable or resilient metal, preferably of square or oblong shape, and provided with holes 11 adapted toreceive rivets or eyelets 12 for attachment to the, case.
Integral with the upper edge of the plate 10 are a series of loops 15, each loop be- 9, 1925. Serial No. 74,358.
ing inter-spaced as at 16. Suspension members are provided, each consisting of a block 18 with trunnions 19 and provided with a centrally disposed vertical hole or bore 20. Each suspension'block is located in one of the spaces16 With its sides in slidable contact With the ends of adjacent loops 15, while its trunnions 19 have circular movement in the latter. The trunnions of one block are rotatable independently of the movement of the trunnions of the next adjacent block from which they are spaced.
Snap hooks are employed comprising shanks 23 and loops 24. The upper ends of the shanks are reducedto form necks 26 which swivel in the holes 20 and terminate in heads 28 resting loosely on the upper faces of the blocks. e
The snap hooks are for the reception of the keys which are engaged therewith in the usual manner.
It will be observed that the hooks both swing and swivel so that universal action is secured, and it will be further observed that each blockis distinct from'each other block. This is important not only in preventing movement of an adjacent block, but also because it permits independent repair and'substitution of any particular block by opening up a single loop 15. The block and trunnion construction it will be noted permits their formation by suitable dies from blank strips of metal which renders the expense of manufacture insignificant.
I claim In an article of the character described, an attaching plate, a plurality of longitudinally disposed loops integral with the plate and inter-spaced from each other, blocks loosely fitting in the spaces between the loops and provided with holes, trunnions on the blocks journ'aled in the loops, snap hooks, necks on the hooks extending loosely through the holes, and heads upon the necks, resting upon the blocks.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature. I 7
CHARLES H. FALLOWS.
