Be it known that I, MA'r'rI-rnw J. BUCKLnY,

a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Milwaukee, in the county 5 of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Holder for Marking Pins; and

l'- do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

rllhis invention relates to pin holders and is particularly adapted to such holders as employed in laundries.

lt is an object of this invention to provide a holder for safety pins which will securely hold the pins in unclasped position.

It is also an object of this invention to provide a means for conveniently receiving and holding unclasped safety pins.

It is further an object of this invention to provide a means for holding safety pins from which they may be conveniently withdrawn with a maximum of ease and expedition.

It is also an important Aobject of this invention to provide a system for easily identifying and checking laundry.

It is also an important'J object of this invention to provide a unitary means for marking and checking each individual laundry bag. y

It is also an important object of this invention to provide a device of this class which is simple and may be economically manufactured. i

With the above and` other objects in view, as will be apparent, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

On the drawings:

Figure 1 is a plan view of a unitary group of pin holding means embodying this invention.

Figure 2 is a section along the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

4whichmay be of any suitable material and which is adapted to receive any numerical designation as the identifying numerals 2 whichl are applied to a handy tab 3` secured to the base l in a position to be conveniently viewed. Arranged onthe base 1 are a plurality of pin retaining members 4 which are of various sizes to accommodate various sized safety pins 5. Each retaining member 4 is preferably adapted to receive a plurality of pins and all the pins for any one of said members4are preferably of the same size for facilitating the operation of marking and checking, but this is not essential. The case 1 may be stamped froma single sheet of metal as shown to form the downwardly depending flange 6 on the periphery thereof, to more easily and economically manufacture the same. The pin retaining members 4 are preferably formed of a single sheet of metal bent to form the U-shaped section shown in Figure 3 and secured to the base 1 by means of the bolts 7 shown in said figure or in any suitable manner. Each safety pin 5 is designated with the same numerals 2 as are the unitary base 1 and the tab 3 thereon. Each of the two upwardly extending sides of each member 4 is horizontally apertured as 90 at 8 'to receive the points of the pins 5,

the two apertures for each pin being in alignment and similar so that the pin may be inserted from either side, the position and alignment of the apertures being very 95 clearly seen from Fig. 4. Adjacent each aperture 8 is a diagonal sloty 9 having the upper portion thereof partially cut away as shown in Fig. 2 to permit the guard portion of the pin 5 to be slid into said slot 100 and caught under that portion of the upper edge thereof which has not been cut away.

The members 4 need not of course be formed as shown from a single sheet of metal and the holding means for each pin may be formed separately, but from a manufacturing point et view it is preferred to construct them as shown as itis important in devices ot this kind to produce the article in as expeditious and convenient a manner possible.

In actual practice the base 1 would probably have thereon more of the members 4 than shown and the members 4 might have therein means for holding more pins than shown. Each individual bag of laundry would preferably be assigned its unitary base l thereon or perhaps a plurality of them. The pins on the base would be attached to the various articles in the individual laundry, the numerals 2 thereon corresponding to the numerals 2 on the base, so that not only do said pins form a means of marking, but, since the absence of any of the pins 5 from their position on the unitary base will denote missing articles, said pins when used in combination With the base and holding means thereon form an excellent checking system.

It will be seen that the pins are held in position for instant use and that they may be inserted in the holding means or Withdrawn therefrom with one hand in a simple operation thus eii'ecting a great saving of time.

I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a Wide range Without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.

I claim as my invention:

1. Pin holding means comprising a member having an aperture therein for. receiving a pin therethrough, said member having adjacent said aperture a slot, said slot being spaced away from-said aperture to receive the guard o1 said pin when the latter is in open position.

2. Pin holding means comprising a member having an aperture therein for receiving a pin therethrough, said member having adjacent said aperture a` slot, said slot being positioned away Erom said aperture 'to 'receive the guard of said pin when the latter is in open position, said member being formed from a single sl eet oi" metal.

3. Pin holding means comprising a mem ber having means iior holding a pin therein and means laterally spaced away from said` means in said member for holding the guard of said pin, said guard and said pin being held in open position.

4. Pin holding means comprising a U- shaped member having apertures therein, said apertures being aligned with each other for receiving a pin therethrough, and latern ally spaced means on said member adapted to hold the guard oi said pin in open posi.- tion.

5. Pin holding means comprising a U- shaped member having apertures therein, said apertures being aligned with each other for receiving a pin therethrough, laterally spaced means on said member adapted to hold the guard of said pin in open position, and means associated with said laterally spaced means for permitting the release of said guard when the same is moved slightly toward said pin.
