Patented Mar. 2, 1926.
UNITED STATES FRANK B. DIXON, OF WEST BEND, IOWA.
, TOILET STOOL.
Application filed August 31, 1925. Serial No. 53,619.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK B. DIXON, a citizen of the United States, residing at IVest Bend, in the county of Palo Alto and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Toilet Stool, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment to be used in connection with water closet bowls, wherein the usual seat forming a part thereof is constructed to actuate the flush valve.
In bowls of this character, the bowls are provided with lips that extend rearwardly and through which the hinges for securing the seat portion thereto, are secured, which bowls and lips are often bro-ken rendering the device inoperative.
It is therefore the object of the invention to provide means to be readily and easily secured at the rear of the bowl for relieving the bowl and usual hinges from undue strain directed to the seat by persons throwing the seat down too suddenly.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily converted for use on concrete surfaces or wooden surfaces.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a closet bowl supplied with an attachment constructed in accordance with the invention.
6 extending rearwardly therefrom, the lip being supplied with suitable openings for the reception of the shanks 7 of the hinges 8 that are employed for securing the seat 9 thereto.
Cushioning members formed preferably of rubber are indicated at 10 and are positioned-in suitable openings formed adjacent to the shank openings of the lip so that the shank will be held in position by the cushioning members 10, which cushioning members will act to relieve the lip of undue strain.
The device forming the essence of the invention includes leg members each of which includes an upper section 11 and a lower section 12, the upper sections 11 being provided with right angled extremities 13 formed with openings for the reception of the shanks 7 of the hinges, as shown by Figure 3 of the drawing, where the nuts 14 are supplied to secure the leg members to the lip.
The lower sections of the leg members have their lower extremities split so that the section adjacent to the split portion may be spread outwardly as shown by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, where they are provided with openings to receive securing bolts such as indicated at 15.
' Should it be desired to secure the lower sections 12 to a concrete floor, it is only necessary to provide openings in the concrete floor and position the lower ends of the lower sections 12 therein, thespace between the walls of the openings and lower sections being filled with molten lead or the like which acts to anchor the arms against movement.
The adjacent ends of the sections 11 and 12 are provided with threads for the reception of the turn buckles 16 that may be operated to move the sections 11 and 12' to-.
wards each other to tighten the leg members against movement.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction as shown and described the strain which is usually directed to the lip or the closet bowl is transferred to the leg members of the attachment to insure the operation of the flush valve at all times, which as before stated is controlled by the movement of the closet seat,
I claim:
In combination with a seat having a rearwardly extended lip formed with spaced openings, said openings having enlarged upper and lower portions, hinge shanks extending through the openings, cushioning members positioned Within the enlarged portions of the openings and having openings to receive the hinge shanks, a securing device including leg members, each of the leg members comprising an upper and lower section, turn buckles for a cljiustahly connecting the upper and lower sections, said upper sections having right angled end 1 portions formed with openings to receive as my own, I have hereto afiixecl my signature.
" FRANK B. DIXON.
