Description
W. F. COLLIER.
Egg-StandsL y N0.157,440. v Patented Dec'. 8,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F.l COLLIER, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,440, dated December 8, 1874; application filed August 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. COLLIER, ofthe city and county of Worcester and Commonwealth'of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg and other Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a side View of an eggstand embracing my said improvements. Fig. 2 represents a side view of a section of the wire employed in making the frame of the stand. Fig. 3 represents a top or plan view of the central metallic piece employed for holding the separate parts of the frame of the stand together. Fig. 4L represents a top or plan view of the metallic holding-piece after it has been secured to the frame-pieces, the latter being shown in section. Fig. 5 represents a side view of the metallic holding-piece shown in Fig. 4, together with so much of the frame-pieces as is necessary to illustrate the mode ot' attaching the short frame-piece, which Inode is not so fully shown in Fig. l 5 and Figs. 6 and 7 represent top views of two ot' the egg cups or holders.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make `and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
In the drawings, the parts marked A and B constitute the main frame of the stand. The part A extends up and forms a curved handle, C, by means of which the stand can be lifted and carried about, as may be desired,
. while the ends are bent down and in, as shown at D D, and are then passed through the metallic holding-piece E, and are then bent out and downward, as shown at F, to form legs or feet G for supporting the stand, after which the ends are bent up, as shown at H, and the strands of twisted wire a. are then bent out horizontally, and then up vertically, and their ends clinched about a ring, b, thereby forming a cup, I, for holding eggs or other articles. The part B is bent in a similar manner to form legs and feet Il and G, and passes through and is held in the metallic holdingpiece E in the same manner as the part A, and the strands a at its ends are bent to form holding-cups I, the same as those ot the part A; but its center part, J, only extends a short distance above the metallic holding-piece E, as shown in Fig. 5. I
It will be seen that the wire or bar K, from which the frame of the stand is made, consists in this instance of strands of twisted wire a wound about a central supporting-wire, L, i
which makes a very strong and durable frame, while at the same time the strands of twisted Wire a serve for making the holding-cups I, which are both strong and ornamental.
It will be understood that the central wire L does not extend above the bottom of the cups.
In combining the metal holding-piece E with the frame-pieces A and B, the projecting iiingers e are bent around so as to lirlnly clamp the frame-pieces, as indicated in Fig. 4, and after the stand is completed it is dipped in some molten metal to give the whole article a. bright and tinished appearance.
It will also be understood tlfat my invention can be applied to making stands of' different forms, and for different purposes.
Having described my improvements in egg and other stands, what I claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the frame-pieces A and B, of the metallic holding-piece E, said parts being constructed and combined together to form an egg or other stand, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
WILLIAM F. COLLIER.
