BRUSH.
- Appncauoninea July 14, 1924. serai-No. 725,984.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that we, SARKIS T. Arra- RIAN and Bnnnos T. A'ITRIAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, and 1777 E. 17th Street, borough of Brooklyn, respectively, in the vcountles 'of Philadelphia and Kings, respectively, and States )f Pennsylvania and New York, respectively, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes, and more particularly to a fountain brush particularly designed for use by tailors, cleaners or analogous artisans, and an objectof the invention is to provide a brush structure which is comparatively simple in construction and comprises a plurality of compartments adapted to contain Vdifferent types of iuids, the outlet from which compartments are controlled by suitable plunger operated valve structures to permit the o erator or user of the brush to control the ow of the particular fiuid at will.
During the cleaningof various articles of wearing apparel or analogous vmaterial, a cleaning iuid, such as gasoline or a suitable chemical preparation, is employed and quite frequently water is used either afterwards or in connection with the cleaning fluid to provide thorough cleaning of the garment; and it is an object of this invention to provide a novel, practical type of fountain brush structure by means of which two various fluids may be easily, lquickly and eliiciently applied to the article being cleaned.
Other objects of the invention will appear in thefollowing detail description, and in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved brush.
Figure v2 is a longitudinal section of the improved brush.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section through the brush.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved brush comprises a brush back 1 whichhas a plurality of bristles 2 attached thereto in any approved manner. The brush back 1 has end supports 3 suitably attached at its ends to its surface opposite the bristle carrying surface and it also has supports4 attached thereto at spaced points to provide spaced pockets 4. lThe supports 4 support containers or reservoirs 5 and 6, above the back 1, each of which have downwardly projected extensions 7 at their ends outwardlyof the'corresponding supports 4. The extensions 7 of one reservoir being positioned at one end of the brush, while the extension of the other reservoir is placed at the opposite end of the brush. The extensions 7 have inclined partitions 8 therein in which suitable valve seats 9 are formed. Valves 10 are provided for controlling the passage of the fluid from the main bodies of the reservoirs into the spaces formed beneath the partitions 8, and the valves 10 are carried by suitable plungers 11. The plungers 11 extend and through the supports 3. Springs 13 are coiled about the plungers 11 for holding the valves 10 properly seated and thumb buttons 14 are carried by the stems of the plungersy to permit the unseating of the valves 10. The bottoms 15 of the extensions 7 are perforated, as shown at 16, and the perforations 16 communicate with openings 17 formed in the brush back 1 to permit the iiuid released from either of the compartments to pass through the 'brush back, and upon the bristles 2 for application to the garment. Suitable filling plugs 18 are provided to permit the filling of the tanks or reservoirs 5 and 6.
It is, of course, to be understood, that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the partsy associated in different relations, and therefore, we do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
lVhat we claim is: i
1. In a brush, a perforated brush back, bristles carried thereby, a plurality of reservoirs supported from the back in close proximity thereto, a depending extension on each of said reservoirs having a partition therein, each partition being provided with a valve seat, .said depending extensions provided with openings to 'permit fluid to flow from the extension through certain of the bristles in the brush back, said extensions disposed at remote positions one with respect to theother whereby the fluid from the respective reservoirs will engage the bristles at remote points.
2. A brush com rising a back, bristles carried thereby, a p urality of tanks arranged in parallel relation, each tank having an slidably through the tops of the reservoirs 5 and 6A Partnern" oFFlcEQ-g v remote' points and opening on to the bristle carrying face of said back, each partition being provided with a valve seat, la valve coacting therewith, means for normally holding the valves in engagement with said seats,4
and manipulating portions on the ree endsv of the Valves for permitting manual depression of the valves.
3. A brush comprising a back having side and end walls rising therefrom, spaced transverse supports provided on the top of said back to provide spaced 'pockets,'brist1es extending from the oppositev face of said back, a plurality of tanks each having an angular extension disposed in the respective pockets, a partition within each of said extensions, said back being provided with setsl of openings at opposite ends thereof for registration with similar sets of openings provided in the bottom walls of said extensions, each partition being provided with a'valve seat, and valves for co-action respectively With the valve seats for 'selectively controlling the fiow of liquid adapted to be contained in said tanks to the bristle side of said back.
In testimony whereof We aix ouresignatures.
