To all whom it may concern:-

Be it known that I, BARNETT MADOFF, a

citizen of the United States, residing at' Scranton, county of ,Lackawanna, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful'Improvements in Sanitary Protectors, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to improvements in sanitary protectors and more particularly to catamenial garments.

The principal object of this invention is to provide an improved type of sanitary protector of simple character adapted to be Worn without discomfort, being so designed as to be adjustable in size-thru a limited range to provide a snugfit under all conditions.

Another object of this invention consists in the provision of a sanitary rotector having means for detachably holding a pad or napkin and being provided with means whereby said pad or napkin can be rea adjusted in position when the garment is being worn.

Other and further objects will be apparent to those skilled in the art as the description proceeds.

The present invention contemplates improvements in the garment disclosed in my co-pending application Serial #721,111 filed July 3, 1924, sanitary protector.

The garment is composed of four principal portions indicated at 10, 11, 12 and 13, the upper portions 10 and 11 being preferably formed of any suitable "ordesirable fabric while the lower portions 12 and 13 are formed of any suitable moisture-proof dily material such as velvet, hospital rubber or rubberized silk fabric; 6

' The garment has substantially a form fitting shape similar to a tight-fitt ng pair of drawers but the sides of the garment are removed as shown at 15 below the waist band and extending clear to the bottom to allow the hips and thighs to protrude. These portions are not necessary in the proper functioning of the garment and "their elimination reduces the bulk over the hips and adds to the wearers comfort in warm weather. The edges along the cut away portion are suitably reinforced as shown at 16 to prevent tearing. The bottoms of the leg portions formed by the pieces12 and 13 are provided with the tapes 17 which are adapted to be tied around the leg to hold the garment down in posItion and to maintain the waterproof portions in close engagement with the legs.

lower portions 12 and 13 are joined together by a seam along the median plane and are connected at the front and rear to so the upper portions 10 and 11 respectively by horizontal seams 18 and 19.

The upper rear portion 11 is reinforced along the top edge and has the tabs 20 projecting forwardly over the hips. These 35 tabs are connected by the elastic fabric belt 21 forming a waist-band to support the garment.

The most important feature of this invention consists in not permanently fastening the upper front portion 10 to the waist band but in providing adjustable means for attaching this portion thereto so that the garment can be adjusted to. suit the length of the wearer This feature also provides for a ready means to gain access to the pad or napkin for its adjustment in a manner to be later described. By providing for the adjustments as described, the garment can be more comfortably fitted to snugly engage the body of the wearer at all points, the garment being per and lower rear enlarged or reduced insize over the buttocks by adjustment of the flap.

The method of attaching together the upportions of the garment is clearly shown in Fig. 4. The upper or fabric portion is turned out and back upon itself to form the double-thick depending tab 25. The end of this turned up portion is stitched to the lower or rubber portion as at 26, a reinforcing tape or binding 27 being formed around the edges of the two fabrics. The whole is then stitched by the seam 28 to the body of the upper or fabric portion 11. I

The tab is provided with eyelets such as 29 thru which safety pins may be passed to attach the rear end of the pad or napkin 30 as shown in the figures. A strip or tab 31 is attached to the center of the elastic portion of the belt, depends therefrom and is provided with the eyelets 32 to receive a safety pin for the attachment of the front end of the pad or napkin.

, The napkin or pad is thus supported from the belt at the front and rear and may be readily adjusted, while the garment is in position, by loosening the fasteners and dropping the flap thus exposing the tab 31 and the front end of the napkin, when the safety pin can be inserted at the roper place in the pad to secure the desired t.

From the above description it will be evident that this invention provides a novel and improved type of sanitary protector which is comfortable to wear, effective, simple to adjust to suit various sized persons and in which the napkin or pad is comfortably supported and may be adjusted while the garment is worn.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

A form fitting protector of the class described comprising in combination front and rear body fitting portions and right and left leg fitting portions, the leg fitting portions being secured together by means of a single seam which follows the contour of the crotch and each such portion being secured to both front and rear body portions by scams running transverse to the crotch scam the lower edge of the rear body fitting portion being doubled back so that a transverse loop of cloth depends from the rear transverse seam for the convenient attachment of a sanitary napkin, belt means connecting the tops of the front and rear body fitting portions and a le encircling means associated with each of the leg fitting portions.
