Description

1 the eyes of the horse.
FRANCIS SCHWALM, OF CLARKSVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-BRIDLES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,352,
dated December l, 1874; application tiled November 14, 1874.
To' atl whom t may concern o Be it known that I, FRANCIS SCHwALM, of Clarksville, in the county of El Dorado and State of California, have invented a new and 4 useful Improvementin Blind-Bridles, of which pieces of the bridle so that they operate as cranks on the blinds, which blinds are attached to their upper ends. -It also consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents my improved bridle attached to the horse as when in use. Fig. 2 shows the bridle detached.v
Similar letters of reference indicate correA sponding parts.
A A are the blinds, which are made to cover B B are the cheekpieces with which the blinds are connected.
- C is the bit of the bridle, through the ends of which the cheek-pieces pass. 'Ihe ends D D of the cheek-pieces have each an eye or ring, F, to which the lines or reins G are attached. Below the bit the cheek-pieces are bent, so that they act as cranks when the lines are drawn, which act throws the blind inward and over the horses eyes. H is a strap, which goes over the neck behind the ears of the horse. This strap is attached to the upper ends of the cheek-pieces, as seen in the drawing, and acts as a spring.
By means of this improvement the blinds may, at the will of the driver, be drawn tightly over, and so as to close, the horses eyes, and held in that posit-ion until the danger is passed.
I do not confine myself to any particular manner of attaching the blinds to the cheekpieces. The cheek-piece may be bent or coiled to forms rings, which are afterward covered to form the blinds 5 or they may be made adjustable on the cheek-pieces, as may be desired; and the crank ends D D may be made separate, and so as to be adjustable on the cheek-pieces, if desired. v
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A blind-bridle constructed substantially as described that is, having the cheek-pieces B B, blinds A A, and crank ends D D made substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination and arrangement of the neck-strap H, bit C` and lines Cr Cr with the rigid cheek-pieces B B, substantially for the purposes described.
FRANCIS SCHWALM.
