SHOE-LACE HOOK.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY E. PAMBTANCO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, county of San Joaquin, tate of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Shoe-Lace Hooks;V

and I do declare the following to be a full, clear7 and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in thc construction of hooks such as are commonly used on the upper portions of lace shoes.

rlhe principal object of my invention is to provide a device of this character especially intended as a replacement or repair hook to take the place of the ordinary hooks after the latter have pulled out, a frequent occurrence in heavy outing or work shoes.

At the same time my hook may be used as initial equipment on new shoes if desired.

A further object is to provide a device of the character which when once is installed7 is rigid and cannot be pulled out unless the surrounding shoe material gives way completely.

At the same time my hooks are easily removed if it should be desired to do this.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be installed by anyone without the assistance of a shoemaker and without the use of any tools other than one simple implement which I intend to provide with each box or set of hooks.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification andcla-im,

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral l denotes the body member of the structure substantial-ly cylindrical in form and provided with a deep transverse groove 2 cut in the side there-o'.

This body member is adapted to rest on the material 3 of the shoe upper in the customary place adjacent the-edge of the same with the groove facing away from said edge.

The body is maintained in position on the shoe by means of a screw 4 projecting through a. hole 5 in the material 3 and into a blind hole 6 tapped in the body 1 from the face thereof adjacent the material 8 and disposed between the inner end of the groove and the opposite side of the body.

If the device' is being installed on a new shoe the hole 5 would be punched to suit7 but if a replacement job is being done the hole 5 would be that from which the original l hook pulled out.

rIhe outer end of the screw has a circular disc-like head 7 of sufficient area to more than cover any hole 5 likely to be encountered. as is also the case with the bottom area of the body l. j

To enable the screw to be turned the head has spaced and diametrically alined Vsocketsr 8 adapted to be engaged bythe similarly spaced projections 9 formed on a flat key 10.

This key would be supplied to purchasers of each set or box of hooks if sold in this manner, or a certain number of keys would be included with every purchase of a bulk lot by a repair man.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substanially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

lVhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviarions from such detail may be resorted to as do not 'form a.- departure from the spirit of the. invention7 as defined by the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A Shoe lace hook comprising a hook mem- 5 ber adaptedtobe placedaganst.the, outer side offtheshoe material, a-serew adapted to be screwed into the hook member from the face thereof which rests against the shoe material, said head having opposed sockets inwardly of its outer periphery, and a key member having projections to enter the sockets..
