Be it known that I, PHILIP Knszrnnn, a4 citizen .of the United States, andl a, resident of the city and county of San Francisco,
A"pensive appearance and inexpensive manu facture Y y Another object ofl the invention is to pro-` vide a pendant electric lighting fixture in.
which the fixture arms are attached by bolts or similar means tothe fixture body-5. Whereby the parts of the fixture may be Separately finished before the fixture is assembled.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pendant electric lighting fixture in which the fixture arms are removably attached to the body, the connection of the arms to the body being such that the arms are held against displacement, so that the proper spacing of the arms is always maintained.
The invention possesses other advantageous features, some of which with the foregoing, will be set lforth at length in the following description, where I shall outline in full those forms of my invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the present specification. In said drawings I have shown two forms of electric lighting fixtures embodying my invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself tol such forms, since the invention, as set forth in the claims, may be embodied in a plurality of other forms.
Referring tosaid drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of one type of electric lighting fixture, embodying my invention. A
Figure 2 is a vertical section through a portion of the fixture shown in Figure 1.
' Figure 3 is an underneath view of that portion of the fixture which is shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a vertical section through a portion of a modified form of fixture.
The fixture of my invention comprises principally a body plate having lighting fixture arms attached thereto by bolts or other similar devices. theplate and the arms is such that rafter the arms have been attachehthere isno possibilityy of relative ,movement` .of an arm with r respect `to the plate, so that the, ,proper spaeino' ofthe arms is alwaysmaintained. This ias been laccomplished heretofore,
Chief-ly; by welding or brazing the arms to.. theplate and thisfoperation is not only ex-V pensive, but mars the finish oflthe` parts, so.y that theparts can not be` finished until after they have been assembled. In accordance with the present invention, lthe parts The construction o't'w are separately finished and are assembled after they have been finished, thus greatly reducing the costof the fixture.
Refer-ring particularly to the fixture shown in Figures 1, 2 and` 3, the fixture comprises abodyplate 2 which ispreferably circular in shape, and which is provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures 3. 4The apertures preferably open radially on the periphery of the plate and the inner sides of the apertures are straight and are provided with depending lugs 4, which assist in positioning and supporting the lighting fixture arms. f
The lighting fixture arms 5 are tubular and arecurved or bent into any desired form, depen-ding upon the design of the fixture. The arms are provided at their outer ends with sockets for the lamp 6, and the wires 7 for the respective sockets extend through the tubular arms. At its upper end, each tubular arm is fiattened and the flattened end bent over to form a tab 8 which bears against the upper surface of the plate 2. The flattened -portion of the arm is of the same width as the aperture 3 and the unbent flattened portion of the arm lies against the inner side of the aperture, so that, when the arm is secured to the plate, there can be no relative movement of the arm with respect to the plate. In the present instance, the arms are attached to the plate by bolts 9, extending through the tabsA 8 and the plate 2. The lower ends of the bolts 9 are concealed by the ornamental device 13, which'is supported on the stem 14 which 'is in threaded engagement with the plate 2. The apertures 3 mental skirtl, depending from the plate 2. In vthis construction, the skirt is formed are concealed by an ornaseparately from the plateand is provided*v adjacent its fup'per end with a-tlange.y 1G which rests on the plate.
hickey is supported on the hollow7 stem 18 Which is engaged by thernuts 19.- TheV stem 18 and the hiokey 17k are concealed bya canopy 21 interposed between the nuts 191` and the upper surface of the skirt 15. T here is thus produced an" expensive appearing iixture, in which the arms lare rigidly positioned, at aninexpensive oost; l i
I'In Figure /1,I have shown forni 'of the fixture, in which they body plate 2 and the skirt 15 are integral. The aper tures 3 are of the same v'arrangement as the apertures in the first 'type of =tixturewithf the'exception that they do notextend'to 'the -peripehry 'of the plate, norfar e1 they provid ed at their inner sides'with depending lugs.
The inner side of the aperture 3 is straight and the'flattened portionS of the'tubular arm 5 is of the samewidth as the aperture,
sothat the arm is positioned bythe aperf" vture.-The platey 2 is 'supported-from Tthe nut 19 through the stem 18 and the hickey 17, and a canopy 21 is employed to conceal the stem and lthe hickey; -The under'portions of the bolts9 and the v'stemflli 'are concealed by the ornamental device Secured. to theupper end of the stem l14C is ahiokeyrl'? through which the Wiresf passend thel This fixturel is; substantially identical VWith that shownin Fi-gures 1,-2y and ,3, With the extending through: said apertures and being flattened to'. lie against the, surface of the platejfbolts securing the flattened endsof from thelplate'to 'conceal the. apertures and acover disposed-Within the skirtv and con-v cealing theboltson the fundery side otthe- 2.
