To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, U'rLnY Green, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Paoli, in the county of Chester and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Air Blowers of the tfagniardclle Type, of which the following is a specification.

The principal object of the present iii-- vention. is to increasethe capacity of the "(lap iiardelle type of air blower and in one of it aspects this invention comprises the provision of either or both of two paths for the escape of water in addition to the path ordinarily provided at the discharge end of? the casing, which path, when present, is necessarily contracted in order to provide a sui'lieient depth of liquid seal for opposing the escape of air. In another of itsaspects the invention comprises the provision of ports in the external wall ot the casing betwe n its ends and the adaptation and utilization of an endless belt for covering the portions of those ports that are exposed to the air and uncovering the portions of those parts that are submerged.
The invention will be claimed at the end l'iereot but will be first described in connection with the embodiment of it chosen from among other embodiments for the sake of illustration in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view, partly in central section and partly in elevation, of an air blower ot the thigniardelle type embodying :i'eatures ot the invei'ition.

In the drawings 1, generally, is a 1'0- tatable casing internally. provided with a water spiral or Archimedean screw element 2 and having a contracted end outlet 3 that affords a path for the escape of water,

The end 3 is contracted in order to provide an appropriate depth of seal for preventing" the escape of air except by way of the otttake at. As usual air enters the casing at the open end 3 thereof. 5 is a water tank in which the casing l is partially submergeil and rotated; The foregoing description merely indicates features of the Cagniardelle type otblower upon which my invention is an improvement, and a description of my invention will now be given. The external wall 6 of the casing 1 is ported between the ends of the water spiral or Archimedean screw element 2, for example, as at 7. The internal wall 8 of the casing also'ported between the-ends'of the water spiral or l trchimedean screw element. This internal wall of the casing is also the bound ing; wall of a drum 9, closed at its ends 10. The ports in this wall 8 are indicated at ll tennis and they are disposed between the flights o't the screw 2. 12 is a band or belt shown as of the endless variety and itisadapted to cover the ports 7. Referring to 2, l?- are guide pulleys and let is a belt tightener and their purpose is to run a reach of the belt 12 in contact with the exposed portions of the ports 7 to cover them against the passage of air and to run the belt out of contact with submerged portions of the ports 7 to uncover them and provide a path for the escape of water supplemental to the path for the escape ot water provided by the contracted end outlet 3, when pre ent. the circulation of water between the flights of the screw and in that way constitute another path for the escape of water which is supplemental to the path provided by the ports 7 and to the path provided by the outlet 3. In the modification, Fig. l, the belt 12, is guided by a single guide pulley 15 and is tightened by the guide pulley lat. .r\s shown the belt is driven "from a pulley 15 through a countershatt l6 and belt 17, and the countershaztt l6 serves to revolve the pulley over which the belt passes, and in such use the belt serves to rotate the casingand water spiral or iirehimedean screw elm ment as a whole. It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modilications may be made in details of construction and arrangement without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited as to those matters or otherwise than as the prior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim: I
1. An air blower of the Cagniard lle typehaving a rotatable spiral or Archimedcan screw elementincluding a casing wall ported between the ends of said element to afford a path for liquid.
2. An air blowerof the Cagniardelle type having a rotatable spiral or Archimedean screw element including a'casing hav ing end openings of which one is constricted and having between the ends of said element a ported outer casing wall affording a path for the escape of liquid supplemental to the path for the escape of liquid provided by the constricted end opening.
3. An air blower of the Cagniardelle type including in combination a peripherally ported rotatable casing internally provided with a spiral or Archimedean screw element, a tank for liquid in which the easing is partially submerged, and a band or belt running in contact with the exposed portion of the outer surface of thecasing to cover the ports againstthe passage of air and clearing a submerged portion of the outer surface of the casing to uncover the ports and provide a path for the escape of liquid.

'An air blower of the Cagniardelle type including in combination a rotatablecasing contracted at its discharge end and provided with an external ported casing wall and with an nternal porteddruin wall and having mounted therein and between said walls a spiral or Archimedean screw element, a tank for liquid in which the casing is partially submerged, and an endless band or belt running in contact with the exposed portion of the external casing wall to cover the ports against the passage of air and clearing a submerged portion of the external casing wall to uncover the ports and provide for the escape of ..iquid.
7.-An air blower of theflcagniardelle type including in combination a peripherally ported rotatable casing internally provided with spiral or Archimedean screw element and having a contracted end outlet, a tank for liquid in which said casing'is partially submergec, an endless band or belt adapted to cover said ports, and pulleys for guiding said belt in contact with the exposed portion of said ports to cover them against the passage of air and out of contact with a submerged portion of said ports to uncover them and provide a path for the escape of liquid supplemental to the path for the escape of liquid provided by said contracted end outlet.
8. An air blower of the Cagniardelle type having a rotatable spiral or Archimedean screw element including a casing having three paths for the escape of water of which one is a .contracteo opening provided at one end of the casing and of which another is a port provided at the periphery of the casing and of which the third is a centrally arranged drum communicating with the space between the flights of the screw or spiral.
9. An air blower of theCaguiardelle type having a rotatable spiral or Archimedean screw element including a casing having a peripheral port and provided with an endless band running partway around the (using to cover and uncover said port.
