lie it known that I, Gnonon A. PREISSER, a citizen of the United States, residing; at Denver, in the county of Denver and dtate of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful linj'provcnients in Ar Intakes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to certain new and useful improvements in auxiliary feeding attachments for internal coinlon engines v The primary object 'of the hive} ition isto' provide an auxiliary air feeddevice which will automatically supply air to the intake manifold in proportion. to the fuel supplied from the carburetor.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a connection between the supply valve of the carburetor and the auxiliary air device which is so constructed that the amount of air pass 1g through the air feeding device will he auton'iatically regulated whenever the carburetor valve is moved to vary the supply of fuel to the intake.
A still further object of the invention is to so construct the auxiliary air feeding device that the same niay'be positioned be tween the carburetor outlet and the intake manifold without modifying the construction of either of these parts. 7
A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby steam may be withdrawn from a suitable source and admitted into the intake manifold when desirable.

My invention, which is adapted to be positioned between the 8 and consists of a body portion 6 which is in the form of a I flat substantially rectangular casting. This body portion is adapted to be placed betwee the flanges 3 and at as for this purpose is provided with the apertures 7 through which are passed the securing bolts 8 which hold the two flanges together. Suitable nuts 9 engaged upon the threaded end of these bolts are adapted to hold the two flanges tigh ly clamped against opposite sides of the body portion. Above the opening 10 the bot y portion is provided with a cylindrical bore 11 which extends longitudinally along the upper edge of the body and is open at each end thereof, T he upper portion of this bore is provided with a phirality of vertical air ports 1.8 through which air is drawn into the bore 11 and is subsequently admitted into the opening- 10 through the ports l t intending vertically through the body porlion from the bower portion of the bore to the wall of said opening. A slide valve in the form of a plunger 15 movable in the bore 11 between the air port 12; and 1/ to re ulate the amount of air passing; throiugh i to ports into the intake manifold by way of the opening; 10. The outer end of this plunger valve is bent at right angles as indicated at 116 and has its free end flattened and aperl'ured to provide an eye 17. A. connecting rod 18 is extended through this eve and threaded at one end to receive the nuts 19 which are positioned upon opposite sides of the eye 1.7 for a purpose which will be apparent hereafter. The end of the rod 18 opposite to the threaded end thereof is flattened and apertured to provide an eye stated and k too as shown or else inserted in the Water 20 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. To provide for the admission of steamer moist air into the manifold in lieu ot'the dry air admitted therein through the ports i3 and 141 .1 have provided an arrangement consisting of a pipe 23 which has one end thereof threaded into or otherwise secured in one end of the bore 11. T he opposite-end of this pipe may be eitheh extended through the top of an automobile radiator jacket of the engine by removing the safety plug ordinarily located on the right side ot the engine. block and directly to the right of the front cylinder and about one inch below the manifold, so as to receive therefrom moist airor steam, which is thus Withdrawn from the radiator or the water jacket through this pipe and into the intake manifold via the air ports 14. It Will be understood, of course, that my invention is particularly adapted for use in connection with motor vehicles and therefore it is thought that the connection of the pipe 23 with either the radiator or the Water jacket Will be readily understood. It will be noted that the pipe 23 is provided with a cut oil' valve vided with 2% which is operated to close the pas-Jage through. the pipe when desiring to use merely the dry air admitted through the opening 13. 7
From the foregoing it is thought that the operation will be readily understood. In this connection it is pointed out that whenever the arm 21' is aetuated by the rod to more the throttle valve to more open position, the rod 18 will move the plunger valve 15 in a direction to uncover one or more of the openings 13 and 14 and in this Way the proportion of air and gas admitted to the manifold inlet will be constant. it is desirable sometimes to use steam or moist air in preference to the dry air admitted through the opening 13 and for this reason 1 have provided the pipe 23 which feeds a supply of moist air or steam from the radiator.
The foregoing description and the accompanying drawings have reference to What mightbe considered to be the preferred or approved form of my invention. I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the COHllDilltitiOfl, constructure and arrangement of parts, materials. dimensions et cetera as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claim. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
A device of the character described cont prising a body portion provided with a central opening, anda longitudinally extending bore positioned aboye said opening, said'bore communicating with said opening and proa plurality of air ports extending through the wall thereof, a feed pipe connected with one end of said bore to ad mitsteam therein, a slide valve extended into the bore from the opposite end thereof to regulate the passage of steam and air into said central opening, an eye formed on the outer end of said valve a rod eXtei'iding through said eye and an actuating rod coir neeted therewith.
