srnnnwoor. MACHINE.
.appnation alea :une 5, i925, serial no. 35,156.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WTLLIAM'H. RoBnrNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Steel-Tool Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein' to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to steel wool and in particular to making steel wool blankets or pads.
It is-the object of my invention to provide a method and means of manufacture of steel 'wool pads s o that the resulting product may be formed into a pad or blanket of uniform thickness and density in.y a desired form.
Theprimary problem in forming steel wool blankets or pads is to insure uniform andadequate density of the'product. It is my objectto provide a method andmeans of so forming .-the steell wool blanket. `or pad that it'may have this uniform density so that theproduct will be satisfactoryand so that an unnecessary amount of wool may not be wastefully included in the blanket or pad.
It is also highly desirable to haye the density uniform when such pads are used for filtering-or other purposes of similar character where uniformity in texture and density is essential.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure lillustrates 1n section my apparatus for effecting the purpose of my invention'by indirect light; Y
Figure 2 is a similar view showing an apparatus for effecting the same purpose thru h vdirect light.'
Re erring to the drawings in detail, 1
is the side wall ofa supporting frame or box'provided with a bottom -2 in which is located .on t-hel upper surface't reef arefleeting surface 3. The uppe walls 1 carry van in'wardjly. extendngfledge 4 from which are' angularly disposed'in a dependingf'position thelighting --braclrets 5 Y having reti bulbs O11V .the top of'this ledge 4f and positioned by the shoulder 8 is a transparent 'plate' of jglass 9. -This late maybe translucent-For' ground glass i' desired;` The steel wool 1s p on the vtop ectorsj and'incandescent electric ed in afname-10 as at'll over ltheglass 9. Itis moved within this 4frame until the pad orblanket' is of density desired. Thiscanbe determined by the 0 crator by observing the amount' of liglit 2 on the bottom of the lhousing which is marked 2 andthe light direct upwardly by the reflectors 6 and lamp l7 through the supporting glass blanket 11.
plate 9' through the' steel wool,
It will be understoodthat I desire to colnprehend within my invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varving conditions and uses.
Having thus fully described my invenation, what I claim as new and i cure by Letters Patent, is:'- 1. In combination, a casing, a top therefor adapted to pass light therethrough, a
desire to se! source of light within said casing to project lightthrough the top, and aframe mounted'.
of said casing to contain steel wool. Y 2. In combination, a casing, a light-reflecting interior, and a light-passing vmedium forming the top of said casing, wheresteel wool located on said top may be. arranged to have equal density 'throughout the l mam by so arranging the wool that the light will pass therethrough equally at all points, and a framev adapted to-be mounted i,
top for maintaining on the surface of said the margins in position to give lthe wool a proper marginal configuration.
f' 3. combinatiomf pendd around the margin of the top with -I reflectors o n said lamps-'reflecting the light downwardly to theinside 'of the bottom of the-casing, alight reflecting bottom, a top -adapted topassfglight therethrough, and
adapted to support steel .wool on the'out? side thereof. 1 In testimony whereof-I axfmy signature.
WILLIAM RoBnIN's.
