UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUGH F. WAGLEY, 0F MINERAL VJELLS, TEXAS.
DOUCHE TABLE.
Application filed August 11, 1925. Serial No. 49,625.
new and useful IIl'IPTOVBlIlBIltS in Douche Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in medical appliances, more particularly tables and the like, and it consists of the constructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a douche table designed particularly for the treatment of the diseases of women, the construction being extremely simple yet sturdy, and of such design that water will drain rapidly with little likelihood of passing over the sides.
Other objects and advantages appear. in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in
' which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im proved douche table. 7
Figure 2 is a detail sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In carrying out the invention provision is made of a support 1 which comprises upper and lower pairs of legs 2 and 3. These legs are braced near the bottom by a bottom frame 4 which extends from leg to leg as shown. The lower legs 3 are shorter than the upper legs 2. thereby giving the table top 5 a slant in the downward direction.
The upper ends of the legs are appropriately aflixed to a top frame 6 (Fig. 2) which, like the frame 4, extends around from leg to leg and furnishes a perfectly stable support for the table top. The table top is made of metal. The ends and sides are turned down and under the top angle iron 6 as at 7. This arrangement not only provides a smooth surface at the corners of the top angle iron but also prevents the lodgment of impurities such as might be expected to collect around a device of this character.
A drain pan 8 is incorporated in the table top 5. The pan may be made integrally with the table top or it may be aiiiXed in any approved and known manner. The table top has a concave depression 9 which slopes toward the foot of the table and to one edge of an opening in the table top. The concavity permits fluid to flow into the drain .pan which drain pan is fitted around said opening. A spout 10 serves the purpose of a discharge for the drain pan.
The spout shown is of simple nature, and in practice is usually made todischarge into a bucket or other receptacle that is set under the table. It would be an obvious expedient to attach a hose to the spout, or to incorporate a valve, although as already stated the usual mode of use is to simply set a bucket under the spout.
Diagonal braces 11, situated between the various legs and the top frame 6 contribute considerable strength to the general construction. The table topis equipped with a headrest 12 and a foot rest 13. In practice, the head rest 12 may be supplemented by a pillow, but this has not relationship to the invention.
The use of the table is obvious. Upon the administration of a douche any water flowing upon the upper part of the table top will be directedinto the drain pan 8 by the concavity 9. The tendency of thew-ater to drain is furthered by the inherent slant of the table from head to foot. The eX- treme simplicity of the table promotes the easy and cheap manufacture thereof, making it possible to extend the use of the table to private homes. The table is intended largely for use in sanitariums, hospitals and the like, and being of simple construction is readily cleaned to comply with the demands for sanitation.
hile the construction and arrangement of the improved table is that of a generally preferred form, obviously modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
I claim A sanitary douche table comprising a top frame, pairs of vlegs at the end extremities with an opening therein near the foot there of the table of which one pair is shorter of anda conoaved depression sloping toward 10 than the other, a bottom frame extending the foot of said table to one'edge of said from leg to leg near the bottom of the legs, opening, and a drain pan having an outlet at single piece, substantially smooth table top therein made integral with said top and applied to and fitted around the top frame, fitted around said opening.
the head and foot portions of said top lying in the same plane, said top being provided HUGH F \VAGLEY.
