Description

Feb. 2 1926.
G. A. SIMS GKRIENT HANGER Filed Oct. 11, 1923 Patented Feb. 2, 1926.
UNIT-Ea STATES GROVE-R A. SIMS, OF REMLIG, TEXAS.
GARMENT HANGER.
Application filed October 11, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GROVER A. SIMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Remlig, in the county of Jasper and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and has for its principal object the provision of a device of this character which will effectively hold clothing and the like thereon without the necessity of removing the hanger from its support.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a garment hanger which is suspended from a tubular support and is so connected thereto that the hanger may be swung to any desired position for the purpose of supporting a garment thereon.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a new and improved form and arrangement of parts of a garment hanger by reason of which the cross bar of the hanger may be released to receive clothing thereon by means of which the necessity of disconnecting the hanger from its support will be eliminated.
Referring now tothe drawing wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure -1, and
Figure 3 is a detail view of the SBIILI- spherical member which partly surrounds the support.
In the drawing, the reference numeral 1 indicates a supporting rod or tube which has a raised rib 2 extending the full length thereof for retaining the semi-spherical ring shaped member 3 in position while the hanger is being adjusted to a position desired by the user.
The ring shaped member 8 has one of its free ends terminated to provide a projection 4 which extends through an opening 5 formed in the upper end of a lever 6.
Serial No. 667,859.
Said lever 6 extends down at an angle from the projection 4, and has a short horizontal portion at its lower end, which is pivotally connected by a pin 6 to a horizontal portion formed on the upper end of a lever 6". The lever 6 also extends down at an angle and has its lower end also extending horizontally, said horizontal portion having an opening 7 therein through which a pin 8 extends to pivotally connect the same to the top of the shoulder braces 9, which are adapted to support a coat or the like. The bracket also consists of a cross bar 10 which is swivelly connected as at 11 to one of the shoulder braces, and the opposite end of said bar engages a hook shaped member 12 which is securely connected as at 13 to the opposite shoulder brace and by means of this arrangement the cross bar may be raised off the hook 12 and extended outwardly to permit the user of the device to place clothing, such as trousers or the like thereon. A pair of clasps 14 are slidably arranged on said cross bar, and are designed to engage wearing apparel for the purpose of suspending the same from the hanger.
When it is desired to use the cross bar 10, the same is lifted off the hook 12 and swung outwardly to permit the operator of the device to place the wearing apparel thereon and replace the bar on said hook. However, when it is desired to hang a skirt or the like, the same is placed between the clasps 14 and suspended from the cross bar. Other wearing apparel such as coats or the like may be placed over the shoulder braces and designed to suspend therefrom for the purpose of retaining their shape.
By means of the pivotal connections of the levers 6 and 6 the garment supporting portion of'the hanger may be swung horizontally to any desired position, within a certain limit, so that a garment may be moved to a position out of line with other garments supported on other hangers which are supported from the rod or tube 1.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the the end of one of the levers being pivotally appended claim. connected With the ring member by a pivot \Vhat I claim is: pin which is aligned radially with the cen- A garment hanger comprising a rod, a ter of the ring and the rod and a garment ring member having spaced ends and adaptsupport pivotally connected with the end ed to engage around the rod, said ring memof the other lever.
