UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIc WILLIAM H. BURNETT, OF STANFOBDVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPING ATTACHMENTS FOR TINNERS MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157.189., dated November 24, 1874; application filed August 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BURNETT, of Stanfordville, in the county of Dutchess and-State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clamping Attachment for Tin- Working Machines, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying'drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved clamp attachment for standards of tin-working machines, and Fig. 2 is a top View of the same, partly in section, on line 0 0, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention pertains to a relative construction of the base of the standard and a device for clamping the same to the bench, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the standard used in tin-working machines, being cast of suitable metal, with a ribbed socket-shaped top part and clamp'screw for supporting firmly the operating machine parts, and with an enlarged base, B. Hitherto these standards were set stationary into recesses of the bench and fastened thereto, being thereby more or less in the way of larger work, and allowing no quick adjustment of the tin-working parts in difierent directions on the bench. For the purpose of dispensing with the permanent attachment of the standards, and for making them detachable, a strong clamping device, 0, with circular top part 0, fitting closely around the base of the standard A, is applied by a clamping-screw, D. The standard A may thereby not only be rigidly secured to any part of the bench, as required by the nature of the work, but also turned readily, together with the working parts, in the upper socket, into any direction over and beyond the front part of bench. The usefulness and strength of the bench are thereby considerably increased, and a less number of standards required, which may be taken off for bein g stored away with the tin-working parts.
I do not claim a clamping device consisting of a screw, and a metal frame having a forked horizontal arm for embracing the object to be held; but
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the standard A, having the circular base with flat bottom and conical top portion, and the clamp 0 having the part 0, of annular form, and made concave on the under side, as and for the purpose specified.
