SPEAR S I GNAL LANTERN Filed April 24,. 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 y flat gasket 22 affords a tight joint and yet it is so arranged that the top can be closed down without tilting the globe as is neces'- sary in many lanterns. lVhen the lantern is 5 swung, in giving varying signal and especially in ufpward movement,it becomes necessary to urnish an additional air supply to the flame from the direction of the topl of the globe. To do this Without otherwise interfering Witl theaction of the lantern when at rest is a difficult problem. 1 I have found that this can be readily accomplished according to my inventionby .providing a number of openings vsuch as 30 through `mitted and regulated by a battle member 31.
In the form shownin Fig. 1 I provide abaille member 31has` a flange 34 which is detachably secured in some suitable manner .Q to'thewall 27, as for instance, by 4means of a bayonet joint 35. This makes it possible to readily detach th'e shield or slip it up so as to facilitate-cleaning the Walls. The cylindrieal'portion 29 is preferably secured to thegilange 36 which extends upwardly from the ring 28-either permanently or by, means of, a bayonet joint 37. Air passage 38 is i provided to the perforatedfring 28 either `thi-ough ,or inside of the baille member 3l from the openings 32 maypass through the openingr 38 and. thence through the openf l, ings 30 into the top of the globe and thence to 'the flame.
