Description
J. DORNETH MATRIX SETTING AND TYPE BAR CASTING MACHINE Filed April 8. 1924 lllllllllll atented ii an. 26, 1926.
JULIUS DORNETH, "EIONRADSHOHE, NEAR TEGEL, GERMANY. I
, MATRIX-SETTING AND 'rYPE-Ban-cAs'rING MAoHrivn.
Application filed Apri1 8, 1924. Serial No. 705,112;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS -DORNETH, re-
siding at Konradshohe, near Tegel, Falkenhorststrasse 7', State of Prussia, Germany, a
citizen of Germany, have invented certa n new and useful Improvements in Matrix- Settmg and Type-Bar-Casting Machines, of
which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to justifying de .vices for matrix setting and type-bar casting machines having circular spacing means.
' The invention consists of the novel construction and {combination of parts i to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional example of t-lie'invention isshofwn, in which. i v 1 Fig. '1 is a section through the composing points'on line AB of Fig. 8, r
Fig. 2 a section on line G-Dof Fig. 3 and Fig. 3 'a-plan view ofthe composing'point, all parts not required fora understanding the drawing being omitted.
It is known that for justifying, more par I ticularly in the case of long, matrix bars, two
superposed circular spacing members I), c
are used, the non-rotatable. parts of which are connected by abridge member m, which terminates at the top in an arm a with a hook n. The spacing members with the matrices are suspended by means of the said hook on guide wires 0. The rotatable circular wedgesof the spacing members have no hole in the middle and are each provided at their periphery with a notch 61,63 with which they embrace round bars f, g when they come into the composing position. The bars are capable of being rocked in the direction of the arrows (Fig. 1) round the centre of the circularspacing members and in this. rocking movement carry the circular members round with them, the line being justified by this means. After the line has been cast, the bars 7, 9 return to their former position and rock the circular members in a corresponding manner.
The motion of the round bars f, 9 may be imparted to them in -any suitable manner, for instance, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, by means of the rack Zhitherto used for turning thespacing members by means of pinions 2', is mounted on the square shafts for the said members.
. tending In the new arrangement the signature. pinions 2, 1c are mounted on special shafts,
as the square are no longer used, and are provided with arms 1*, s at the ends of which the round bars 7, g are journalled. On the rack Z moving upwards in a known manner, after the machine has been put in motion, the'round bars f, 9 move upwards and effect the justifying of the line.
The. new justifying device is specially suitable for machines, in which matrices travel in a closed path. It has hitherto not been possible to construct such machines with circular spacing members, as the arrangement of the -square shafts and the way in which they are journalled preventedthe line, after casting, being deposited in the dirction of motion of the matrix when setting up the type. Owing to the'square shafts being done away with and the suspension of the circular spacing on wires, this difliculty is overcome.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be per formed, I declare what I claim is 1. A justifying device for matrix setting and type-bar casting machines with a spacing device, comprising in combination a plurality of circular spacing wedges and means in engagement with said circular spacing wedges at the peripheries thereof for turning the spacing wedges.
2. A justifying device for matrix setting and type-bar casting machines with a spacing device, comprising in combination a plufrality of circular spacing wedges, notches in the periphery of the said wedges, round bars capable of engaging in. the said notches and means for causing the said bars, when engaged in the said notches, to rock with the wedges about the axes of the latter, as set forth. T I
3. A justifying device for matrix setting and type-bar casting machines with a spacing device, comprising in combination-'2 plurality of rotatable circularspacing wedges, a non-rot table part and an upwardy exrm on the non-rotatable part for suspending the said device to a guide-wire on the machine and means, whereby the.
power required for turning the said circular of the said circular wedges, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my J ULIUS DOBNETI-L '105 spacing wedges is applied at-the periphery
