To all whom t may cm1/cern.:A
Be it known that I, HEINRICH SToLL, Jr., a citizen ofthe German Empire, residing at Reutlingen, in thevKingdom of Wrtemberg,- Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamb Knitting-Machines, of which theifollowing is adescription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figure's of reference marked thereon.
The present invention relates to improvements upon the Lamb type of knitting-machines, especially that type in Which'goods embodying diHerent-colored .designs may be produced. f
The special object of the present invention whereby it is possible ,on Lamb machinesto dispense with the necessity of having a spe,- cial pattern-plate for every pattern.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the lockon a Lamb knitting-ma-v Fig. 2 is a similar view.1 Fig. 3 represents the invention as applied to a Lamb knitting-machine. Fig. '4 is a top plan-view and planl views of theauxiliary thread-guide. In the drawings, and referring to- Figs. 1., 2, 3, and 4 particularly, which represent porthread-guide 5, that is connected-'by a bracket 17 to a slide 15 under the control 'of a patternable antifriction-roller 1 6 ,held in place against having bearings `for a pairof parallelv shafts 9 and 12, the latter carrying the patterncam V13. VOn shaft 12 is secureda ratchet- Wheel 11, withwhich engages a pawl 8, that is pivoted to a slide bar 18, normally held 1 9. On slide 18 yis a cam-shaped b ock 20, `with which engage cams 10, carried by the shaft 9, and at each ninety degree movement of the shaft the slide 18 is moved forward and the ratchet-wheel turned to the extent of a single tooth. This' movement transmitted to the revoluble cam moves the thread-guide to and fro, as dictated bythe pattern and is commonly employed in machines of the In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6 in the bracket, and secured to one side of the bar are two racks E and F, having ratchetteeth facing, respectively, in opposite directions. The bracket A is provided with bearings for the reception of three transverselydisposed parallel shafts d, e, and I-I, the latter port of a cam or pattern chain m, having links or blocks Z. The shaft e carries a bellcrank lever having two arms f and f2, while shaft ecarries a bell-crank lever g, having arms g and g2. The arms j" and f2 are provided with cam-shaped ends for engagementby the pattern-chain m. The arms f2 and g2 carry pawls t' and p,- respectively, said pawls engaging the racks E and F and being held in operative position by means of. suitable springs'n, andthe tails of the pawls are under the control of a double cam o, which places either pawl in inoperative position when itis retracted.
During the operation of the mechanism shaft carrying disks or Wheels h for the supt 7o 'will act on one of the 'arms-arm g', for instance-and effect through the pawl lc amovement of the thread-guide carrier-bar a to the right, theteeth of the rack F being of a pitch corresponding to that of the needles. When a full movement fto the right is completed,
vthe cam o will move said pawl 7c to inoperative position, and a corresponding movement of pawl i will thenoccur, the bar a being moved to the left.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. A thread-guide, a carrier-bar therefor, having oppositely-facing racks, pawls for enga ing said racks, and a pattern-chain contro ling the movement of the pawls.
2. In a' Lamb `knitting-machine the combination with a patternchain of a threadguide-shifting bar arranged at right angles thereto with means for reciprocating the same in the direction of its length, compris- Ioo ing bell-crank levers supported on suitable In testimony whereof I alX my signature shafts, one arm of said bell-crank levers bein presence of two Witnesses. ing adapted t0 engage the attern-chain and the other arin having paw s adapted t0 en HEINRICH STOLL JUNIOR' 5 gage the teeth on the sliding block, said teeth Witnesses:
being arranged as shown, substantially as de-v A. B. DRAUTZ,
scribed. R. STOERZBACH.
